FA VASE UPDATE

The games in the fourth round of the FA Vase were played on Saturday with three games going to replays scheduled for next Saturday. Wisbech Town make the long trip north to Dunston UTS, Gresley go South to Three Bridges and Billingham Synthonia go to Runcorn Town after their matches ended all square over the weekend.

Both Royston Town (lost 2-1 at Bournemouth) and Ampthill Town (lost 2-1 at Oadby Town) went out ending the Spartan South Midlands League interest in the competition.

The Essex Senior League is represented by just one club in Bethnal Green United after Enfield 1893 FC went down 1-0 at Shortwood United. United will face an away tie to the winners of the Dunston UTS v Wisbech Town replay.

Full Fifth Round Draw (due to be played on the 11th February)

Tividale v Peterbrough Northern Star
Shortwood United v Ashington
Staveley MW                          v Oadby Town
Billingham Synthonia or Runcorn Town v Bournemouth
Wisbech Town or Dunston UTS          v Bethnal Green United
Whitley Bay v West Auckland Town
St Ives Town v Gresley or Three Bridges
Herne Bay v Larkhall Athletic

There are some really good games due to take place with the STL Northern League well represented (possibly five teams subject to replay results) where the tie between top of the table and Vase giant's Whitley Bay and third placed West Auckland Town will attract a good crowd to Hillheads Park. Some superb highlights of Bay's 5-0 victory over Combined Countie's League South Park can be found here courtesy of the excellent WBFCTV. Highlights of the Newcastle Benfield v Herne Bay game can also be found here courtesy of the also excellent "Northern League Football Premiership Passion". West Auckland have played Bay twice so far this season and won both games. Town won 4-2 in the League Cup at their Darlington Road ground on the 20th September and 1-2 on the 25th October in the league at Hillheads Park. The crowd in the league game was 488 on a midweek game which will be easily more than doubled for the cup tie. There is a dress rehearsal the week before the 11th February (when the Fifth Round ties take place) on the 4th February when Darlington Road hosts Whitley Bay in an important league match.

Only one Step Six side are left in the competition with every other team coming from Step Five in the pyramid. Oadby Town play in the East Midland Counties League
