RYMAN DIVISION ONE (NORTH) FRIENDLY UPDATES

It's all too early to read anything into team's results with many manager's fielding trialists and usually making a raft of substitutions in the pre-season friendly games but it's always good to see what teams are doing what?. Here is an update on the games played so far by the Ryman Division One (North) sides -

AFC SUDBURY

AFC Sudbury travelled to Fakenham Town last Saturday and drew 1-1 against 'The Ghosts' as the North Norfolk side are known. Ryan Henshaw equalised for AFC in the second half after Fakenham had gone in 1-0 at the break. Goalkeeper Danny Gay who has signed this summer for AFC from Needham Market had an eventful game as he came off for a well earned break on 60 minutes but ended up between the sticks for the home side in the last 20 minutes. The Ghosts home keeper sustained a leg injury with Gay taking over and denying his teams mates from scoring the winner.

The Blues are tipped by many to do very well this after going so close in the play off final last season. The addition of midfielder Dan Trenkel will only bolster the Essex side's chances this season. They have opened with an 8-1 defeat of ESL side Takeley. Fielding two different XI's in the match Trenkel, Dean Green (2), Emmanuel Osei, Joe Gardener, Ryan Edgar (2) and Sos Yao scored the goals. Last Saturday they travelled to another ESL side in Barking and came back from 2-0 down to finish 2-2 with Yao and Darren Blewitt on the scoresheet. Trenks was again on target against Barkingside on Tuesday night with a brace which won the game 2-0 and on Wednesday night an OG and a goal from youth player Shaun Farrow earned a 2-2 draw against Haringey and Waltham Development FC (the new name for ESL Mauritius Sports)

Lots has been written on the cold end about Enfield Town's pre-season. As well as the matches listed an Town XI drew 3-3 with Goffs Oak at The New River Sports Stadium last night and travel to Cockfosters on Saturday.

Hakan Hayrettin's new look Grays Athletic side have played four games so far. They easily beat 'AFC ESSEX' at The Academy in Loughton thanks to goals from Eljay Worrell, former Enfield FC defender Grant Cooper, Ryman North goal machine (who has switched to Grays from Maldon and Tiptree during the summer) Joe Sweeney and Jared Small. Former Aveley winger Joao Carlos has shown some good early form. Other results have been a 0-0 draw with Barkingside and a 0-4 defeat against a Daggers XI. Scorers for the Daggers were Tyler Campbell, Dwight Gayle (2) and Connor Okus. Grays have announced a friendly with a West Ham United XI on Thursday 4th August at Rookery Hill which is bound to gain some local interest with many Hammers fans living in the Town.

Six games and five defeats for GWR at present. Rovers made the short trip to Stambridge United on Tuesday night to play the Essex Olympian League side. United were promoted to the Third Division of the EOFL after finishing runner's up in the Southend Borough Combination to Rochford Town last season. Rovers came away with a 1-8 victory. On Thursday night, they host local rivals Southend Manor in the Nobby Johnson Memorial Match. Nobby, who sadly passed away in July 2010 carried out alot of good work for both teams in his time and was deemed "Mr Rovers". Manor ran out 1-2 winners

The Hawks have won both of their games so far against Braintree Town and Leyton Orient. Both The Iron and The O's fielded youthful looking sides. Danny Brown, Leon Lalite and Leon Antoine scored against The O's with Brown scoring for Danny Chapman's side against The Iron.

In the Swifts latest friendly Ricky Griggs and Ashley Boyce secured a 2-0 win at Witham Town. They have also beaten a youthful Chelmsford City side through goals from Chris Ribchester and Michael Marsh.

Town's opponents on the first day of the regular season have played only once gaining a 1-1 draw against Essex Olympian side Frenford Senior. In the game against Frenford only Rob Budd, AJ Olatunbosun and Adam Bolle were in the starting XI who were regulars last season. They face Herts County League side Goffs Oak at Wadham Lodge on Saturday.

Leiston have recently announced the signing of striker Nathan Stone from Suffolk rival's Needham Market. Stone scored over 20 goals for Market last season. They have only played one pre-season game so far beating Suffolk and Ipswich League side Ipswich Athletic 2-0.

Needham certainly are preparing for the season with 12 games in the run up to the big kick off. They travel to Hitchin Town on Saturday after a 1-1 draw against an Ipswich Town XI at Bloomfields on Wednesday night. Market were 1-0 up at half time through Ollie Fenn with Tamas Priskin equalising for the Tractor Boys in front of 553 people. On Monday night The Marketmen went down 0-5 to a strong League Two side sent by Southend United.

Terry Spillane's new look Motormen side came back from 0-2 down on Tuesday night at Goffs Lane with their goals coming from Glen Golby and Dwight Gayle. Midfielder John Glowacki unfortunately sustained a broken fibula in the game against Stambridge United. The cold end sends best wishes to him and hopes he gets back fit and in a Redbridge shirt soon.

It's a nice seaside trip for The Boro tomorrow as both reserve and first team travel to the Suffolk coast to face Felixstowe and Walton United at Dellwood Avenue. Goalscorers for Romford so far this pre-season have been ex Towner Keke St Hiliare against Barking and Jack Barry in the victory over Thurrock.

Soham Town Rangers have scored in each of their friendlies so far with new signing Denny Escorcio getting amongst the goals against Holbeach United, Wisbech Tow and Chatteris Town. 20 year old forward Escorcio scored seven goals in thirty games for Ridgeon's Divison One side March Town United last season and is definitely a player to watch for the Cambridgeshire side this forthcoming season.

Two games for The Mead so far with both ended in defeat. Former Dulwich Hamlet and Fisher Athletic winger Theo Fairweatheread so far with both ended in defeat. Former Dulwich Hamlet and Fisher Athletic winger Theo Fairweather-Johnson has signed for the Bayliss Avenue club. He was also a Junior at West Ham United and played some games for Burnley reserves in 2008. It's a nice trip to Ramsgate for The Mead tomorrow.

Manager Stuart Nethercott's new look Ware side got their first win on Tuesday night against Hadley thanks to a Marcus Sammons goal. The Ware side was contained a number of fringe players and trialists against the Spartan South Midlands side. Ware entertain the first "Northern" side ever to be accepted into the Hertfordshire Charity Cup when Blue Square North side Bishops Stortford make what will be a rare short trip for them to Wodson Park tomorrow. The game will pit former Totthenham Hotspur team-mates Nethercott and Ian Walker against each other in opposing dug-outs.
