THE COLD END WOODEN SPOON LEAGUE 2010/11

Some loyal cold end readers may remember "the wooden spoon league" from last season which listed the club's from step 1 to step 6 of the football pyramid with no points from their league games. The winners last season were AFC Aldermaston (details here), then of the Sydenham's Wessex League Division One who won with a league playing record of -

AFC got their first point of last season on 10th April 2010 in a 1-1 draw with Warminster Town and won their following game 2-1 against Petersfield Town.

This season they now ply their trade in the Puma Engineering Hampshire Premier League Senior Division (step 7) and yesterday lost 6-1 away to Colden Common. They have achieved better results at their new level this season winning 2 of their 11 league games played so far. Both victories have come at home against Liss Athletic and Overton United.

So, who will win the coveted wooden spoon title this season???  Here is the table as it stands at present with a total of nine teams still in the running -

Three leagues are represented by two teams. Will both Blackwell MW and Hinckley go into the match between the two sides scheduled on the 4th of December still with no points???. Sawbo and Clapton face each other in an ESL basement battle on Tuesday 26th October at Crofters End. The 27th of November is the big day in the UCL Divison One when Buckingham Town entertain Wellingborough Whitworth.

Market Drayton Town are the highest placed team in the Pyramid without a win. The Gingerbread Men play in the Evo-Stik Division One South (the same level as Enfield Town). They have a chance of getting something from their next scheduled league game as they travel to Romulus on Saturday 9th October. The Roms are also struggling with only 1 win from their 5 league games so far.
