THE MAGIC STARTS THIS WEEKEND...


The 130th tournament of the world's greatest competition starts tonight when the magic of the FA Cup kicks off. Forget the glamour of the Semi Finals and Final at the National Stadium this is where you'll see proper football for just a fraction of the price. A total of 402 teams from Step 5 of the non-league pyramid and below are playing tonight, Saturday and Sunday in the hope of qualifying from the Extra Preliminary Round to the Preliminary Round to gain some much needed income from the prize money on offer.

Teams from the Spartan South Midlands League and Essex Senior League are entering with a number of cross over ties between the two leagues making it an interesting weekend for followers of local non league football. Here is a list of the fixtures involving clubs from the two leagues

With Hoddesdon Town travelling to Burnham Ramblers, Dunstable Town travelling to Bowers and Pitsea, Hertford Town going to Takeley, Cockfosters welcoming Hullbridge Sports, EFC 1893 going to Tring Athletic and Bedford facing a trip to Eton Manor followed by Sunday's Hadley V Barking and Kentish Town V Stansted game there are a total of eight cross over games to be played between SSML and the ESL. Who will come out on top in the battle of the leagues??
The cold end's pick of the ties is Burnham Ramblers, who won 0-2 at Clapton in their first league game before going down to Bowers and Pitsea in the league cup in midweek, against SSML Division One Hoddesdon Town. Hoddy have won both of their league games so far without conceding a goal and Hadley, who have taken to SSML Premier Division life with two wins, welcome ESL Barking to Potters Bar on Sunday at 1pm.

There is a feast of FA Cup football in the East London area with London APSA, Clapton, Bethnal Green United, Eton Manor and Barkingside all at home. Clapton and APSA face tough ties against ECL sides Stanway Rovers and Halstead Town. Bethnal Green and Barkingside face familiar ties against ESL opposition whereas Eton Manor face SSML Division One side Bedford.
