THE COLD END WOODEN SPOON LEAGUE - THE WINNER

The cold end sends big congratulations to Durham City of the Unibond Premier on getting their first league win and points of the season in their 29th league game. What a win it was!!! A 2-1 away victory at FC United of Manchester in front of 2,164 was secured by Andrew Stephenson's wonder goal along with Eliot Cutts penalty.

You can watch the highlights of the Citizen's historic victory on the excellent FC United of Manchester TV website. The Durham team was given a rousing reception from the FCUM faithful at Gigg Lane which was very nice to see. LINK HERE

Durham's victory means The Cold End wooden spoon league 2009/10 has a winner. From Step 1 to Step 6 of the non-league pyramid there is now only one team without a point. Therefore the inaugural winners are AFC ALDERMASTON of the Sydenham's Wessex League Division One who narrowly lost 2-1 away from home at the weekend at 4th placed Downton.

AFC's record is now as follows:

P W D L GF GA P
29 0 0 29 19 129 0

AFC ALDERMASTON - THE COLD END WOODEN SPOON LEAGUE WINNERS 2009/2010

The cold end hopes AFC get a win soon and they have the following fixtures to look forward to in their quest for a win or at least a point:

17th March - Home versus United Services Portsmouth (9th/21 in the league)

20th March - Away versus Verwood Town (7th)

27th Match - Away versus Shaftesbury (20th) who have only one victory to their name this season. Maybe this will be the day AFC get the much needed win their season requires!!
