Steve Newing and Del Deanus's spell in charge at Herns Lane last season makes very impressive reading. The 'Dynamic Duo' as the Welwyn and Hatfield Times called them had their first game in charge of The Citizens on the 8th November with a home 1-1 draw against FA Vase Semi Final loosers Chalfont St Peter.
Their full league record reads:
P W D L GF GA PTS
26 15 5 6 52 29 50
That's a win percentage of 57.69%, draw 19.23% and loss 23.08%......Transfer those figures to the 42 league games for Town this year and our record will read:
P W D L GF GA PTS
42 24 8 10 - - 80
In the Ryman North last season that would of been good enough for 5th position and the play-offs. In 07/08 2nd place would of been obtained and a 3rd place finish for 06/07.
Of course we're only playing a guessing/speculating game but it all looks good for the coming season.
Stuart Blackburne scored 15 goals in 11 games and Fabio Valenti hit the net 10 times in 8 games. Stuart also turned out for Amersham Town in the SSML Division One earlier in the 08/09 season scoring 5 goals in 3 games.
What is nice to report is that the Welwyn Garden City Football committee refused to criticise the new Town management's departure from Herns Lane. It looks as though they left with nothing but good words said about them. Del even recommended The Ctizen's new manager Paul Faulkner for the job.

From what The Cold End has seen so far Town supporters have a good exciting season to look forward to.
We are 100% percent behind Steve and Del to bring happy times to Goldsdown Road and beyond.
