Town 1 Wealdstone 2

The Sun was shining over The Goldsdown today as the Town took to the field against a Wealdstone reserve side. As is normal in pre-season the result doesn't matter and this proved a useful run out for a 'work in progress' Town team that is looking good for the start of the season.

In very hot conditions we knocked the ball around well, Our goal was scored by ex-Leyton midfielder Paul Killick. Wealdstone scored through Jamie Osbourne and Lucas Williams. Their second was a good strike from just inside the box.

Town made a number of substitutions at half time and through the second half. It's good to see Big Chris Wild in defence who hopefully will show how good he is this year.

Paul Marks played some good soccer, half time substitute Sammy Winston worked hard up front showing some good skillful touches.

Crowd Guess - between 50-80 people with only a handful of Stones making the journey. Most of their support choosing to make the easier journey to AFC Hayes

Overall it's looking good for the Town and once the team gets settled I can see a good season in prospect. The Cold End is 100% behind Steve Newing and Del Deanus and is looking forward to the proper start of the season on 15th August.

Other News from today

1,600 travelling Geordies were left very disappointed in East London when Leyton Orient thrashed a full Toon team (including Beye, Colocini, Enrique, Nolan, Barton, Martins, Duff, Smith, Guiterrex and Taylor) 6-1. The O's fan's mocking the troubled side with chants of 'your not very good'. The crowd at Brisbane Road was 3,615. The Cold End asks how Skybet.com can make the St James Park team 9/2 favourites for the Championship.

Over at Underhill 799 people witnessed a youthful Charlton side beaten by Barnet 2-0 thanks to goals from Albert Adomah and 41 year old Paul Furlong. He will start his 19th season in the Football League this year. A true professional who is still extremely fit and obviously loves the game. It only seems like yesterday he was playing as a 19/20 year old at Southbury Road.

The result of the day comes from North of the border in the Alba Cup 1st round where third division Albion Rovers shocked first division Ayr United with a 2-0 win. Albion only won 5 times out of 18 games in the league last season scoring only 21 goals. David McFarlane sealed the win for Rovers on 84 minutes scoring from a tight angle. Crowd - 979
