The race for the title in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division took another turn on Saturday as Real Bedford lost only their second game of the season on Saturday when third placed (by eleven points) Leverstock Green won 2-1 thanks to goals from Luke Beckwith and Radu-Mihai Stefanaica. 

MK Irish won 3-0 at home to bottom of the table Sawbridgeworth Town with goals from Ryan Smith and Mason Spence who scored his 23rd and 24th goal of the season. The Irish are now unbeaten in 22 league games having narrowly lost 1-0 at Real Bedford on the opening night of the season. 

Real Bedford have now scored a highly impressive total of 93 goals in just 26 league games - If they continue at this rate they are on course to have a goal for total of just under 136. 

ALL ROADS LEAD TO PANCAKE LANE ON SHROVE TUESDAY

Real Bedford are in Premier Division Cup action on Saturday at Dunstable Town with MK Irish on the road to tenth placed Potton United and then on Shrove Tuesday all roads lead to Pancake Lane as they face Leverstock Green. 

The big top of the table clash is scheduled for Saturday 9th March but as you see there are many matches to be played before then. 

The Step Five divisions have play-offs this season so Leverstock Green, St Panteleimon (4th), FC Romania (5th) and the group of clubs just below the play-off zone all have a chance of promotion to Step Four for the 24/25 campaign - More on those teams later in the week.
