THE HAWKS TOP OF THE TABLE WITH A SEVEN GOAL HAUL AGAINST NW LONDON

It was a somewhat unique game at the weekend as Harlow Town 'visited' NW London for a Thurlow Nunn First Division South game. The home side are currently ground-sharing at The Pardus Wealth Stadium which is the home of The Hawks for those not in the know reading this.

It could even be a future quiz question - Why did Harlow fans celebrate a 0-7 away win at their own ground in 2024?

Harlow Town withdrew from The Pitching In Southern League Central Division (Step Four) midway through last season due to problems with their pitch but have re-joined the football pyramid at Step Six for this season where they are currently top of the current division with NW London down in 16th place.

The result went the way of the league positions with The Hawks scoring four goals in the first half and another three in the second half which saw NW London's defender Marcos Dos Santos was sent off after two yellow cards were given following two late challenges.

Jack Zielinski netted a hat-trick and has now scored twelve goals in thirteen games for Harlow Town since his move from Essex Senior League side Coggeshall Town in November 2023. He is a real fan's favourite for The Hawks now.

For the home side it was an afternoon to forget - On the balance of play it was right for Danny Chapman's side to get the three points but a 0-7 final score didn't show how much of talented side NW London have. As usual they had many impressive and skilful players in their squad and went into the game with four home wins on the trot against Southend Manor, Barkingside, Burnham Ramblers and Cannons Wood.

JUAN ARAQUE TOBON - A PLAYER TO LOOK OUT FOR!

One player who stood out for me was midfielder Juan Araque Tobon (number 7 in the below videos) who looks a very good player indeed. He had very good control on the ball and was always looking to play a forward pass if it be a short or long one. I think he could easily play at a higher level. He is Colombian and had trials with top level clubs in his home country and Ecuador before moving to London with his family. I would say he is a name to look out for. He has netted 6 goals in 29 games so far this season.

The result see's Harlow Town top of the league by five points from Clapton Community with a game in hand. Their league position is great but sadly the news was announced in early February that the club had formally been made aware that a further penalty for their withdrawal is that they are unable to be promoted from their current division for at least one season after withdrawal.

I was unaware of the Football Association's rule 5.10 which states "Where a club resigns from a league that club will not be eligible for promotion for at least one Playing Season following the Season in which it resigned".

The news doesn't seem to have had an effect on their form as since the announcement they have 6-0 against Park View along with this result. They have also won 3-0 in the League Challenge Cup Quarter-Final against Premier Division side Brantham Athletic.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS - SHORT

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS - LONG

It's a great day out at the seaside in store for the Harlow Town supporters as they visit Southend Manor on Saturday before another away trip to Enfield Borough on Saturday 24th February - They then have a huge game at currently third placed Benfleet on Saturday 2nd March.

NW London will look to get back to winning ways with a home game against Basildon Town this weekend.

In the League Challenge Cup Semi-Final The Hawk's host Long Melford on Tuesday 19th March with the other semi-final being Lakenheath travelling to local rival's Thetford Town.

Finally, a quick mention to the impressive array of flags that Harlow fan's displayed for the game which included this one which is one of the best and most original I've ever seen. Everyone of a certain age will be very familiar with the legendary quote by Rick from The Young Ones University Challenge episode.

It's coming up to the tenth anniversary of Rik Mayall's untimely passing which I'm sure will be marked by many friends and fans on Sunday 9th June this year. Rik was born in the Village of Matching Tye which is only a few miles East of Harlow.
