HERTS SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE - RACE FOR THE TITLES UPDATE

PREMIER DIVISION
POS TEAM P W D L GF GA GD PTS PP
1. CHIPPERFIELD CORINTHIANS 30 21 2 7 56 38 +18 65 65
2.  BUSH HILL RANGERS  29 20 4 5 76 38 +38 64 67
3.  BELSTONE  27 18 2 7 63 20 +43 56 65

After Bush Hill Rangers shock defeat to Oracle Components on Tuesday evening they get another shot at the tile next Wednesday evening when they play Ware Sports who will be no push overs - they qualified for the Aubery Cup Final this midweek with a 2-3 win AET versus Welwyn Garden City Development. Their opponents will be Belstone who they beat on penalties in the final of the Herts FA Senior Centenary Trophy Final. Belstone still have an outside chance of the title but will have to win all three of their remaining games and hope Bush Hill Rangers either draw or lose against Ware Sports.

Ware Sports play Belstone in the Aubery Cup Final tomorrow at Hemel Hempstead Town.

Final League Fixtures for Top Three
Tuesday 23rd - Belstone v Cuffley
Wednesday 24th - Ware Sports v Bush Hill Rangers
Saturday 27th - Belstone v Ware Sports
Tuesday 30th - Sandridge Rovers v Belstone

DIVISION ONE
POSTEAMPWDLGFGAGDPTSPP
1.BALDOCK TOWN RES 2820179349+446161
2. LEMSFORD 2820176631+356161

Baldock Town Reserves are champions of Division One - their scheduled game at Hatfield United was forfeited by the home side awarded them the three points which means they pip Lemsford to the title on goal difference.

DIVISION TWO
POS TEAM P W D L GF GA GD PTS PP
1.  HEMEL HEMPSTEAD ROVERS  22 21 0 1 102 18 +84 63 75
2.  WESTMILL  23 20 1 2 81 26 +55 61 70

With four and three games to play it's still between Hemel Hempstead Rovers and Westmill for Division Two. Rovers have a busy week forthcoming as they also play Croxley Green in the Bingham Cox Cup Final on Tuesday evening.

Saturday 20th - Hinton & Finchley u23 v Hemel Rovers
Saturday 20th - Oxhey v Westmill
Thursday 25th - Hemel Rovers v Bushey Rangers
Saturday 27th - Hemel Rovers v Lethchworth GC u23s
Saturday 27th - Chipperfield Res v Westmill
Tuesday 30th - Letchworth GC u23s v Westmill
TBA - Hemel Rovers v Oxhey

DIVISION THREE
POS TEAM P W D L GF GA GD PTS  PP
1.  CROXLEY GREEN  24 18 4 2 86 21 +65 58 70
2.  SUN SPORTS  26 15 5 6 65 38 +27 50 56
3.  BEDMOND  24 14 4 6 49 29 +20 46 58
4. BUNTINGFORD TOWN RESERVES  23 14 4 5 49 37 +12 46 61

In Division Three Croxley Green are nearly over the line. Sun Sports, with only two games left, are unable to catch them. Bedmond need to win their remaining four games and rely on Croxley losing all of theirs as well as turning round an inferior goal difference of +45.

Buntingford Town Reserves could still finish higher than Croxley but would need to win all of their five games - one of which is at home to the current table topper's on Saturday 27th May.

Realistically one more win for Croxley Green with their +65 GD would all but seal the title depending on other results. Ironically their next game is at home to Sun Sports this coming Saturday.

DIVISION FOUR
POS TEAM P W D L GF GA GD PTS PP
1.  WELWYN PEGASUS u23  25 20 2 3 85 21 +64 62 71
2.  CROXLEY GREEN RESERVES 25 18 3 4 82 40 +42 57 66
3.  BENGEO TRINITY  24 16 3 5 78 45 +33 51 63

In Division Four Welwyn Pegasus u23 are in the driving seat need five points from their remaining three games to seal the title pending the results of Croxley Green Reserves. Third placed Bengeo Trinity could still win the title but I'd use the phrased 'mathematically possible' as they need to rely on Welwyn losing their final three games and Croxley to lose games too.

THE HISTORY OF THE GREG CUP

"The Greg Cup of North Hertfordshire Junior Cup" as it was originally known was instigated by Mr Greg (whom the competition is now named after) in 1910/11. One of the unique rules he stipulated as that any player having received a winner's memento in the competition would not be allowed to play in future competitions. This rule was relaxed in 2007 and there is no longer such a stipulation.

The unique rules saw that up until 2003 no club even retained the cup - 'Fishers' won in 2002 and 2003.

The competition was attached to the North Herts Football Association who merged with the Mid Herts League in 2006 to form the North and Mid-Herts Football Association in 2006. When The North and Mid-Herts Football League became dormant due to dwindling team numbers the cup was not competed for in 2014 but was re-introduced for some member clubs of the Hertfordshire Senior County League in 2015.
