Following details of the top tiers of the WELSH PYRAMID I wrote about this week here are the line-ups for Step Three Ardal Leagues - If you didn't know the word "Ardal" translates as "District" in English.
There are number of former top tier clubs in Tier Three this season as well as re-formed clubs who did play in the top tier.
Bangor 1876 were formed in 2019 by fans of financially troubled Bangor City FC and first competed in the Tier Five Gwynedd League. Lots has been written about Bangor City who withdrew from the Cymru North last season - I'm unsure if they'll play this campaign. There is an excellent documentary about the club currently available to watch on the BBC I-player.
Caersws played in the top division from 1992 to 2010 with a top place finish of 5th place on three occasions.
Llangefni Town played for one season in the League of Wales in the 2007/08 season.
Port Talbot Town drop down from the Cymru South - they played in the top league from 2000 to 2016 and from 2005 to 2010 finished 5th, 6th, 4th, 5th and 3rd. The club were denied a Tier Two licence at the end of the 18/19 season and played in the then tier three Welsh Football League Division One - they were promoted back on a PPG basus in the curtailed 19/20 season but now find themselves back at Tier Three.
Rhyhader Town played in the League of Wales from 1997 to 2002 and had a top finish of 12th. After a bottom placed finish in 01/02 the club dropped down to the then Tier Three Mid-Wales League. The original club who were formed in 1883 folded in 2006 but a new club were formed in 2007 and now play at Tier Three.
Rhyl 1879 were formed in 2020 after Rhyl FC dissolution - the original club were title winners in 03/04 and 08/09 regularly playing in European competition.
RTB Ebbw Vale were formed in 1951 as the Richard Thomas & Baldwin Steel Company. The town were represented in the Welsh top tier from 1992 to 1998 and finished in 3rd place for their final two season before financial problems saw the club dissolved in 1998. Another club called Ebbw Vale Town were formed in 2007 but folded in 2018.
Welshpool Town were members of the top tier from 1996 to 1998 and 2002 to 2010 with top finish of 4th in 06/07 - The club dropped out of the top tier after losing sponsorship (they were known as Technogroup Welshpool) meaning they didn't apply for a domestic licence. Thus they dropped to the then Tier Two league Cymru Alliance and finished bottom in 10/11. The club struggled at Tier Three for a number of years and were the subject of a joke read out by Jeff Stelling on Sky Sports following a heavy 10-1 defeat to Waterloo Rovers in 2011. Then Manager Dave Jones wrote to Sky explaining he played as stand in goalkeeper for part of the game which caused Chris Kamara offering to turn out of the club - He did do so on several occasions in the 11/12 season as did Paul Merson on one occasion in a game versus Newbridge-On-Wye FC. They finished in 10th place last season.
