With just six games of the season to go the race for promotion to the Cinch Scottish Premiership from the Championship is arguably down to just two teams with ten points separating Kilmarnock at the top of the table and Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Only the Champions are promoted with the runner's up qualifying for the play-off semi-final - the third and fourth placed sides go into the play-off quarter final.

Kilmarnock, relegated from the top tier for the first time since the 1992/93 season last season, have seemingly hit form at the right time with five wins and a draw in their last six games. Former Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes was appointed manager in January following the departure of Tommy Wright in December who had only been in charge since February 2021.

For part-time Arbroath even to be up in this position is a remarkable achievement for everyone involved with the club especially legendary manager Dick Campbell who has been in charge at Gayfield Park since March 2016 when The Red Lichties* were playing in the Fourth Tier of Scottish Football - He lead them to the title in his first full season with the club.  They have gone from finishing 2nd bottom of the football league in 2016 to possible promotion to the top tier in 2022.

(*note -Arbroath are nicknamed "The Red Lichties" due to the red light that used to guide fishing boats back from the North Sea to the town's harbour)

All eyes are on Friday 22nd April when Arbroath are scheduled to visit Rugby Park in what could be a title deciding game - I'm sure both Campbell and McInnes will have all the focus on their team's games this weekend against Partick Thistle and Raith Rovers.

The bookies (odds from bet365.com) currently rate Killie at 1/2 for the title with Arbroath at 5/2 with Partick Thistle (12/1) and Inverness Caledonian Thistle (20/1) outsiders. (Please remember to gamble responsibly! - gamcare.org.uk)
