DROPWATCH - LEAGUE TWO

With eight games to play and ten points adrift along with a 5-1 away defeat at Salford City in their last game it's looking like Scunthorpe United will be relegated at the end of the season barring a remarkable turn of form and fortunes for the Lincolnshire club.

They host Harrogate Town this weekend who are in 16th place but only have one victory in their last ten league games with no wins in their last seven which have been  three draws and four defeats.

Since the turn of the year Simon Weaver's team have played eight games away from home with a record of just one win, one draw and four defeats. They have scored nine goals and let in twenty in those games failing to score in five. The Iron were well beaten at The Enviro-vent Stadium in October by a score line of 6-1.

With the visitors not being in the best form and Keith Hill's side desperately needing a victory could The Iron record only their fifth league win of the season in their 39th match. A home win is rated at 3/1 with an away victory at 19/20 - the draw is rated at 12/5. (Source -bet365.com) - I think the 3/1 might be a decent bet! - but long term reader's of The Cold End will know by tips are rubbish.

Barrow AFC who are currently six points above the drop zone parted company with Manager Mark Cooper after their 1-2 defeat to Carlisle United in the Cumbrian derby last weekend. He has quickly been replaced with former Hull City boss Phil Brown who was last in charge of Southend United in The National League. He took over The Shrimpers last season when they were six points from safety in League Two with six games left and was unable to save them from the drop out of the football league. He left Roots Hall in October with the Essex club in 20th place of non-league's top division.

Brown's first game in charge is a long trip to East London to play Leyton Orient who have won their last two games under the new management of Richie Wellens.

Steve Evans first game in charge of Stevenage would of been away at Mansfield Town last weekend but it was called off due to a Covid outbreak in The Boro squad. It will now be a trip to currently second placed Exeter City. The Grecians have only lost two games at home out of eighteen played - these came against fellow play-off hopeful's Northampton Town and Tranmere Rovers in December.

The Hertfordshire club then host what is a gargantuan game at home to Oldham Athletic on Saturday 2nd April - the ultra definition of relegation six-pointer.

The Boro escaped relegation in 2019/20 when they finished in the drop zone but due to the demise of Macclesfield Town they were reprieved from relegation back to non-league football they left in 2010. The new Macclesfield FC have made a really good start to life as they have just been crowned champions of the Step Five North West Counties League Premier Division and will play at Step Four next season - I expect to see them back in The Silkmen back in The National League in the next few seasons. They have averaged 3,320 in their league games compared to Stevenage's figure in League Two of 2,761.

They are 7/2 to win in Devon tomorrow.

Oldham Athletic have lost their last five games in a row being beaten at home by Sutton United on Tuesday evening. They host Mansfield Town tomorrow who won 0-1 at Rochdale in midweek and are just two points off a play-off place.

FIXTURES TOMORROW FOR CURRENT BOTTOM FIVE
Colchester United v Tranmere Rovers (5th)
Exeter City (2nd) v Stevenage
Leyton Orient (17th) v Barrow AFC
Oldham Athletic v Mansfield Town (10th)
Scunthorpe United v Harrogate Town (16th)

PREDICTIONS - I think Scunthorpe United may well record a rare victory as it really is a must win game for them - It'll be narrow maybe 1-0 or 2-1. I also think either Barrow or Stevenage will have some new manager bounce and at least one will get a draw.
