COWDENBEATH are six points adrift at the foot of the Cinch Scottish League Two having won just one of their fourteen league games played so far which came against ELGIN CITY in their first home game of the season. Their last six results have been defeats 0-2, 2-4 (v Civil Service Strollers in the Scottish Cup), 0-1, 0-1, 0-1 and 0-3 meaning their last goal scored in the league was on Friday 1st October when they drew 1-1 with Edinburgh City with Kris Renton scoring in scoring in the 83rd minute.
The play-offs were introduced in the Scottish pyramid in 2014/15 where the champions of The Highland League and Lowland League play off to play the club who finished bottom of League Two for a place in the Scottish League for the next season.
The Blue Brazil finished bottom in 2016/17 beating East Kilbride on penalty kicks after a 1-1 aggregate draw and then in 2017/18 they beat Cove Rangers 3-2 on aggregate.
After the defeat to Lowland League side Civil Service Strollers manger Gary Bollan along with his management team of Craig Easton and Ian Flaherty departed. Bollan has been replaced with former Rangers, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Millwall, Aberdeen, Livingston, and Motherwell player Maurice Ross who is assisted by Scott Patterson who was most recently assistant manager at Partick Thistle. He was signed by Liverpool in 1992 when Graeme Souness was manager who paid then Highland League side Cove Rangers £15,000 for his services.
With BONNYRIGG ROSE ten points clear at the top of the Lowland League and FRASERBURGH & BRECHIN CITY (relegated last season) at the top of the Highland League it could be a real battle for The Fife club to retain the league status they have held since 1905.
