TWELVE YEARS OF THE COLD END - THANKYOU TO EVERYONE FOR READING

Friday 24th July 2009 saw THECOLDEND created around my interest and love of non-league football. As I always say I'm not in this for the numbers in respect of getting thousands of views (although that would be nice as it would gain more publicity and exposure for the clubs I cover!) or money as this website is strictly for the love of the beautiful game of football and not for profit. I dare not think how many hours and days I've put into making highlights and writing articles..

The last seventeen months have been very tough for many people with the pandemic but now (hopefully?) the 2021/22 non-league season will be a good one and hopefully the most covered yet with many clubs now filming their games - It certainly wasn't like this back in 2009 when THECOLDEND first started - the way the game at grass roots and non-league level with coverage off the pitch is amazing and a real positive move for everyone involved.

Thankyou so much to all who read this website and follow my ramblings on twitter.

Wherever you watch football and whatever team you support have a great season and enjoy it.

Above - The First photo published on THECOLDEND as Brentwood Town (sky-blue and white) take on Enfield Town (red and yellow) on the opening day of the 2009/10 Isthmian League Division One (North) compared to (below) the most recent photo from THECOLDEND as DTFC (all in black) take on Hackney Wick in yellow

To answer the question I'm asked quite a bit I'll explain why the website is called The Cold End.

It is named after the far end of the Goldsdown Road ground (the former home of Brimsdown Rovers and Enfield Town) which some supporters noticed was much chillier than the end of the ground nearer the turnstiles even when the sun was out!

Can you think of anywhere better than being freezing cold on a Tuesday evening in February watching a Middlesex Charity Cup game in the pouring rain?

Where else would you want to be???

  1. Really great article. If I had to remember a game for the weather, then it would have to be the very early 80s at Mayesbrook Park watching Barking play Leytonstone & Ilford. I wouldn't say it was that cold but 3 Bovrils were purchased that night and we found some cardboard to stand on to stop our feet getting any colder. An away win for us did help though !! Well it certainly won't be that cold tonight as I anticipate watching Hartley Wintney play local rivals Fleet Town in a PSF.

    KEEP ON BLOGGING !!

  2. Many congratulations on keeping the blog interesting for so long!! The advances in media/software over the 20 years have been quite astounding. Expats like me who used to rely on a once a month letter from home with newspaper cuttings from the likes of the Enfield Gazette, can now go to blogs like yours to see what is happening in the non-league football world. Keep up the great work!
