BELARUSIAN FAN GROUPS PROTEST AGAINST POLITICAL SITUATION

The Belarusian football season kicks off this Tuesday with the Super Cup between BATE Borisov and Shakhtyor Soligorsk at the FC Minsk Stadium. Fans are allowed to attend games in Belarus as they have been throughout most of the pandemic. However, the 2021 season may have a different look to it as many fan groups protest about the political situation following the presidential election in August which caused huge protests across the county. Many countries and the European Union have refused to accept the result of the election and all opposition candidates have filed appeals to the Central Election Commission.

Fan groups from Premier League sides BATE Borisov, Slutsk, Neman Grodno, Dynamo Brest, Shakhtyor Soligorsk, Vitebsk along with Second League side FC Molodechno have announced they will not be attending games in protest against the political situation in the country. More clubs are likely to follow this stance.
