Bottom two of the division go down automatically with fourteenth place playing off against the team who finish in third place in the first league.

The top of the Belarusian Premier League has a familiar feel to it with BATE Borisov currently in first position. They have won five of their last six games and have been in good scoring form on 19 goals with just five conceded.

Shakhtyor Soligorsk are second despite having a better GD than BATE. The league positions are decided on head-2-head records but with game between the two title challengers earlier in the season ended 2-2 it goes to h-2-h goal difference which is level on 2-2 so the position is currently decided on goals scored as BATE have hit the net 49 times to Shakhtoyor's 43.

They have recently changed managers with former Kazakhstan Premier League club Astana boss Roman Hryhorchuk taking the hot-seat after Yuriy Vernydub surprisingly left the club.

Neman Grodno, with two defeats in their last three games against BATE Borisov and FC Minsk, are now five points back from the table toppers.

At the bottom of the division it looks like Smolevichy with five defeats in row will find it very difficult not to finish in the bottom two at the end of the season.

Belshina Bobruisk are making a real fight of it and prior to this weekend's defeat to in-form Isloch they have won three games in a row. The game against Isloch was 2-2 but in the 90th minute Dmytro Yusov scored to earn the points for the visitors.

Slutsk (8 defeats in 9 games) are in real danger of dropping into the bottom three - they need to pick up points sooner or later.

SOME FACTS ABOUT THE SEASON SO FAR

BATE Borisov enter the UEFA Europa League this mid-week with an away game against CSKA Sofia who were second in the Bulgarian League last season.

Shakhtyor Soligorsk were knocked out by Moldovan side FC Sfantul Gheorghe in the last round. The game ended 0-0 but they went out 4-1 on penalty kicks.

Dynamo Minsk were also defeated in the last round of the Europa League when Polish side Piast Gliwice won 0-2.

Dynamo Brest have a tough away tie at Israeli champion's Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League after beating Astana and Sarajevo in the previous rounds. The winner of that match goes forward to a two legged tie against Red Bull Salzburg to gain entry to the group stages of the competition.

49 - BATE Borisov have scored the most goals so far.

+30 - Shakhtyor currently have the best goal difference.

13 - Shakhtyor have the best defensive record conceding only thirteen goals. Dynamo Minsk currently in eighth place have let in just nineteen goals.

19 - Gorodeya, in danger of relegation, have only scored nineteen goals. Since their three games unbeaten run in game weeks three, four and five they have just two wins which could be vital as they both came against relegation rivals Slutsk (3-0) and Belshina (2-1).
