BELARUSIAN CUP FINAL

Sunday 24th May
Dynamo Brest 0 BATE Borisov 1 (5,761) AET

It was a fantastic week for BATE Borisov as they won their league game against Dynamo Brest on Wednesday evening with former Dynamo player Pavel Nekhajchik amongst the goals. They are now just one point clear at the top of the table ahead of Energetyk-BGU with Torpedo Belaz Zhodino and Shakytor Soligorsk in 3rd and 4th place on 18 points.

Then today they lifted the Belarusian Cup for the fourth time in their history. The game was a very tight affair with few chances and Dynamo Brest working very hard in defending against BATE. Their best chance came when Pavel Savitskiy rattled the angle of post and crossbar with a free kick in the first period of extra time. With the game looking like it was going to be decided by penalty kicks it was 22 year old Zakar Volkov who became the hero for BATE when after a scramble in the box he struck the ball into the back of the net in added time of the second period of extra time. The defender clearly loves the Cup as he scored in the Semi-Final second leg victory over Slavia Mozyr as well.

In the league games Shakytor got a good 4-0 win at home to Belshina who are still without a win - It's looking increasingly like they may well go back down to the first league after promotion and the first league title last season. Energetyk were 1-1 with Isloch going into injury time after a game of two penalty kicks - Jasurbek Yaxshiboev had scored for the visitors on 13 minutes before Godfrey Stephen equalised on 27 minutes. Step forward Evgeni Yudchits, who has been with Energetyk for seven seasons, whose shot from outside of the box rocketed past Egor Khatkevich in the Isloch goal to collect an important three points for his side.

Gorodeya picked a useful away point at Slavia Mozyr but were 0-1 up until the home side were awarded a very harsh penalty kick on 61 minutes when it was adjudged their player handled the ball in the box - I would say 99% of people watching the game in person and on the TV would disagree with the decision. Andrey Chukley scored from the spot-kick to make the score 1-1 which the game ended as.
