NON-LEAGUE NEWS


SIX AWAY GAMES WITHOUT A WIN BUT STILL TOP OF THE TABLE

Current Vanarama South Division table topper's WEALDSTONE are without a league win away from Grosvenor Vale since their 1-3 victory at Chelmsford City on Saturday 12th October 2019. 

They have drawn 2-2 at Dorking Wanderers and 0-0 at Bath City along with defeats at Hampton & Richmond Borough (2-0), Slough Town (2-1), Oxford City (3-2) and Billericay Town (3-1). 

The Stones fans and players will know this will have to be improved if they are going to stay top of the tree.  

Their next league games comes on Saturday and it's a huge one in the race for the title as they travel to Havant & Waterlooville who are eight points behind them in 3rd place but have three games in hand. It's a pivotal week for The Hawks as they host fourth placed Slough Town on Wednesday evening. 

BRAINTREE TOWN WITHOUT A WIN IN NINE LEAGUE GAMES 

In the same division BRAINTREE TOWN are without a win in nine league games - their last victory came back on Saturday 9th November 2019 when they beat Hemel Hempstead Town 3-0. Since they have lost eight and drawn one game which came against Havant and Waterlooville which ended 3-3 - Rhys Murrell-Williamson scored a 30 yard free kick in added time to earn a point for The Iron in this one. George Borg is now manager after initially taking over as assistant to player-coach Jake Hutchings who departed at the beginning of December after only three games in charge. 

PAUL HAYES JOINS HIS FOURTH CLUB OF THE SEASON 

Former professional player PAUL HAYES announced his retirement from the game after the 2018/19 campaign he spent with AFC Sudbury but the 36 year old forward who made over 500 appearances in the football league then joined the revolution at BetVictor North division side Romford in mid November making one appearance for The Boro in their game against Coggeshall Town. He then joined Southern Counties East Division One side Meridian VP where he scored three goals in four games and also made one appearance for Coggeshall Town against Bury Town at the end of November. He is now clocking up the miles as he has joined BetVictor South-East Division side Faversham Town who are currently 16th of 20 teams in the division. 

Hayes played in Town's 2-0 defeat at Ashford Town on Saturday. 

DOWNHAM TOWN MAKING A TITLE CHALLENGE  

DOWNHAM TOWN joined the Eastern Counties League back in 1988 where they were placed in Division One and have incredibly been in the same division sine with a best placed finish of 3rd in 1998/99.  They finished 8th of the new First Division North last season but are fully involved in the title race for this campaign -  They are currently in second place four points behind Mulbarton Wanderers. Their next game is away to Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves this coming Saturday.
