On Monday 25th March Essex Senior League Barkingside will be host Middlesex County League side Clapton CFC at Cricklefields in a friendly match to mark this club's 120th anniversary. It will be the two clubs first meeting with 'Side Chairman Jimmy Flanagan looking to invite as many former players and staff as possible to the game to celebrate the historic occasion. The club was formed in 1898 and have played in numerous leagues over the years including the London Spartan League, the Spartan South Midlands League which they won the Premier Division in 1999.
The club were denied promotion to the Isthmian League so took a year out of senior football for one season and joined the Essex Senior League for the 00/01 season. They were promoted to the Isthmian League after finishing in second place in 2013 and played in Division One (North) for three season before dropping back down to the ESL.
This season has been a struggle for 'Side with them currently bottom of the table - I think they will need to win five of their last eight league games to give themselves a chance of staying up or face possible relegation to the Thurlow Nunn First Division (South).
Clapton Community FC always bring a good following away from so this is should be a great occasion for all involved.
