DRAW HELPS ST PANTELEIMON IN THE TITLE RACE

Its was second v first in the Middlesex County League Premier Division on Wednesday evening as Pitshanger Dynamo entertained St Panteleimon at Hanwell Town where they currently ground-share. It was an excellent game between two very good sides who I think on this showing could hold their own at Step Six of the non-league ladder where they would be promoted if they go up from their current division. The pitch at Reynolds Field certainly helped - it was one of the best playing surfaces I've seen all season.  

St Panteleimon were the better side in the opening ten minutes pressing high up the pitch and not letting the home side settle. They had some chances to score but it was the home side who came back into it and looked the more creative going forward. It was a real end to end game as Dynamo hit the post from close range and then The Saints hit the bar from an impressive long range shot. 

Pitshanger made it 1-0 when midfielder Greg Miley, who impressed all evening with good technique and a great touch, crossed from the left hand side for Luke Wretham to take a few steps back to lose his marker and smash the ball into the net. 

In the second half The Saints piled on the pressure with the home side breaking forward having some good chances to score. With around ten minutes to go the ball pinged around the Dynamo box bouncing off their keeper and defenders before former AFC Dunstable and Berkhamsted player Courtney Massay was able to touch the ball into the net to the delight of their bench and supporters. 

Massay then had a chance to win the game when his low shot from just inside the box looked in all the way until it rolled past the post by the tightest of margins. 

The 1-1 draw keeps The Saints unbeaten record in the league fixtures going since they moved across from Sunday football (they were in the Kopa League) to the Middlesex County League in 2017. They played twenty-two games in Division One (Central & East) last season and now eighteen this season without a defeat. 

It was a good evening for the table toppers as PFC Victoria also drew (1-1 with fourth placed CB Hounslow United Reserves) which puts The Saints in the driving seat for the title although with eight and ten games to play for both them and PFC there will certainly be some twists and turns - starting possibly this weekend as Pitshanger go to PFC Victoria.

A quick glance at the league table reveals that this weekend's Thurlow Nunn First Division South game between Halstead Town and Hashtag United is very important and clearly the game of the season so far! 

It's likely to be a larger than average crowd at the Milbank Stadium as The Humbugs play The Tags so the advice is to get their nice and early to beat the rush.

An away win would put Jay Devereux's side on 79 points with Halstead Town only able to get to 82 points if they win their remaining four games afterwards so I would say anything but a home win would hand (almost!) Hashtag the title in their first season in non-league football. I'm sure either way the game goes on Saturday there won't be a huge amount of celebration - this will be held back for when the title is officially won.

Middlesex County League Division One (Central and East) side Hereford Palace have had an eventful season - they have officially played sixteen games in the league (one away win was awarded last weekend) and lost them all conceding 128 goals. In the their cup games they have lost both games by an aggregate of thirteen goals to none. They do have three points on the board from their 0-8 loss against London Samurai on Saturday 1st December which was awarded to them. 

They have a tough game next up as they play in form Clapton Community at home - CFC have just qualified for their second cup final of the season by beating Herts Senior County Premier Division side Ware Sports in the Anagram Records Trophy semi-final on Saturday. 

They play theie home games on Wormwood Scrubs which is easily reached from East Action tube station on the Central Line.

Stansted's 1-0 surprise defeat at Enfield FC on Saturday as really closed things up at the top of the Essex Senior League. Saffron Walden Town won 2-3 at bottom of the table Barkingside with Hullbridge Sports winning 0-2 away at Woodford Town on Friday evening. 

It looks set to be a pivotal week as on Tuesday evening Saffron Walden Town visit Hullbridge Sports and then on Saturday The Airportmen host Sports in two huge games that are likely to be well attended.

IMPORTANT VICTORY FOR HADLEY AS THE SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS TITLE RACE HOTS UP

PRIOR TO KICK THERE WAS A MINUTE'S SILENCE HELD IN RESPECT OF THE UNTIMELY PASSING OF LEVERSTOCK GREEN'S CHAIRMAN AND SECRETARY GRAHAM SMART

It was 18th v 2nd in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division yesterday as London Tigers entertained Hadley as Northwood FC'S Chestnut Avenue ground where they currently ground share. Going into the game Hadley were heavy favourites as they had won four and drawn two of their last six games compared to The Tigers who had lost five and drawn one. The home side are in real danger of being relegated and losing the Premier Division status they have held since 2006 when the present day club was formed as a merger between then Isthmian League Kingsbury Town and London Tigers then of the Middlesex County League.

Credit to the home side as if you were watching the game without knowledge of the league positions you wouldn't of thought they were struggling down the bottom of the table. They enjoyed good spells of possession and played some nice passing football. However, it was Hadley who had the cutting edge up front The Tigers look like they desperately need at present. 

Hadley took an early lead through Manny Hammond with a close range diving header and then made it 0-2 when Ned Clarke turned and shot on the edge of the six yard box after some good work by Ibrahim Camara. 

It could of been worse for the home side when Hadley were awarded a penalty. The scoreline of 0-3 would of been harsh on The Tigers so it was good for them when their keeper saved well to his left hand side. 

Early in the second half it was 0-3 when former Cockfoster's player Bradley Marriott smashed home a shot into the roof of the net from just inside the penalty box. The keeper didn't stand a chance - It was in from the moment it left his boot. 

London Tigers didn't give up and still continued to play well with manager Enda Hennessy (formerly boss of Rayners Lane when they were in the Hellenic League) giving them good encouragement and instructions from the touchline.

They got a goal back and could of made it 2-3 only for a magnificent close range save from the Hadley keeper Luke Ward.

TIGER'S MANAGER ENDA HENNESSY 

This defeat combined with Cockfoster's 2-1 home win against Leighton Town sees The Tigers drop into the relegation zone and without a win in eight they need to start picking up points starting next weekend in their massive game at bottom of the table Stotfold. 

Hadley are in great form - they have won nine and drawn two of their last eleven league games and in with a real chance of winning the title. Table topper's Tring Athletic comfortably beat Arlesey Town 5-0 yesterday with Biggleswade FC losing 1-2 at home to in-form Colney Heath. Biggleswade United won 2-0 at home to London Colney.

With Bushey Sports Club losing three of their last six games it looks like the title race in the Hertfordshire Senior County League Premier Division is down to just two teams. Letchworth Garden City Eagles are still unbeaten in winning seventeen and drawing one of their eighteen games played - with their two games in hand they will be considered favourites but New Salamis, who have won seven games in row, will push them all the way no doubt. 

The final day of the season on Saturday 27th April sees Letchworth travel to New Salamis - I'm sure they'll want to have the title won by then! 

Tomorrow The Eagles travel to Broadfields (13th) with New Salamis at home to 11th placed Knebworth. 

BOSTIK PREMIER DIVISION WEEKEND PREVIEW

AFC Hornchurch (15th) v Bishop's Stortford (12th) 

The Urchins five wins in their last eight games has pulled them away from the bottom three and they now look all but safe from relegation. The Blues had a great 2-0 home victory over Haringey Borough last weekend which ended a run of six games without a win. Seventeen year old Ben Worman, who is currently on loan from League Two side Cambridge United, scored both goals which brought his tally with the Hertfordshire side to eight goals in fourteen games. A difficult game to predict so i'll say it's going to end all square. 

Bognor Regis Town (9th) v Leatherhead (10th) 

A huge game for both sides who are both five points off of the play-off zone. I'd say with six games left after this one a defeat for either side would almost end their play-off hopes. The Rocks drew an eventful game 3-3 at Enfield Town last Saturday - they were 2-3 up only for Town to equalise on 87 minutes. They are now five games (drawn three and lost two) without a win. 
The Tanners have a good defensive record of late letting in only six in their last ten compared to Bognor's seventeen conceded - This game sees Bognor (the third highest scoring team in the division) versus Leatherhead (the second best defence in the league). Another tough game to predict - I think this may end 1-1 or 2-2.    

Burgess Hill Town (22nd) v Margate (15th) 

Time is running out for The Hillians who are bottom of the table but their 2-3 away win at Kingstonian last weekend has given them a chance as they are now only five points off of Whitehawk in nineteenth place. The Gate are one of the form sides in the division and are still unbeaten since Jay Saunders took over - they are without defeat in seven games but in five of those they have only scored once. The home side need a victory but I will side with the visitors to win this one either 0-1 or 1-2. 

Carshalton Athletic (6th) v Brightlingsea Regent (13th) 

The Robins are in tremendous form and are in with a real chance of making the play-offs. They had a fantastic 2-3 win at Dorking Wanderers last weekend and was their eleventh game without a defeat. The result ended The Wanderer's fourteen game unbeaten run. Regent only have two wins in their last ten games but are difficult to beat as they've drawn their last three games. Anything but a comfortable home win will be a surprise result. 

Corinthian-Casuals (18th) v Dorking Wanderers (1st)

The Casuals are without a win in nine league games. The Wanderers unbeaten run was ended last weekend. Casuals have let in twenty goals in the last ten games with the title favourite's scoring thirty so it's hard to look anywhere but an away win. Wanderer's can get to a total of ninety-five points if they win all their remaining seven games with their nearest challenger's Haringey Borough having a possible points total of eighty-two. Looking at this two more wins would put Dorking on 80 points which will be probably be enough to win the title. I predict this will be a win for Wanderers which will put them one step closer to the title. Their title odds of 1/100 show that the bookmakers are pretty confident they'll end up top of the league! 

Folkestone Invicta (8th) v Worthing (5th) 

One of the games of the day if you look at league positions. An away win would put Worthing seven points ahead of Invicta and effectively end their chance of making the play-offs. Invicta's fourteen defeats is the highest for any teams in the current top ten which I would say makes them outsiders for making the top five even before kick off. The Kent side only have two wins in their last six games - one being against struggling Harlow Town whereas Worthing are unbeaten in eight of which four have been drawn. This is likely to a close game which I think might end in a draw.   

MARK KIRBY WILL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING AGAINST HIS FORMER CLUB

Haringey Borough (2nd) v Enfield Town (7th) 

Another fantastic game in prospect which is likely to attract a huge crowd to Coles Park where there will be a noisy atmosphere in what could be a dress rehearsal to a potential play off game at the end of the season. Borough only have three wins in their last ten games and are without a win in three. Town have only lost three in ten and are unbeaten in four games. The key player could be Haringey's Mark Kirby who is adored by both sets of fans having been a fan favourite with the Town faithful prior to his move down the A10 to Borough. Make no mistake though if he scores he won't be one of those players who doesn't celebrate against a former club. Andy Leese's side need a win after last weekend's 3-3 draw and I think they may just shade this one but it'll be close.    

Lewes (11th) v Kingstonian (16th) 

Dean Brennan and his coaching staff left The K's after last weekend's home defeat against Burgess Hill Town. The former Billericay Town and Hemel Hempstead Town boss had only been in charge for five games of which four were defeats. Kim Harris has been installed as manager for the rest of the season - he was previously in charge between 2002 and 2004 as well as a spell as caretaker in 2017. Former Tooting and Mitcham United manager Frank Wilson also joins as assistant to Harris who has also managed at Chertsey Town, Walton Casuals and Corinthian Casuals. Lewes have failed to score in five of their last eight games so are clearly finding the back of the net hard to find. Impossible to predict with the upheaval at Kingstonian - I'm not sure what players have left and who has stayed put? 

Merstham (4th) v Harlow Town (21st) 

It was a Saturday to forget for The Hawks last weekend as they lost an amazing game 2-7 at home to relegation rival's Wingate and Finchley who were 0-5 up after just 33 minutes. Merstham lost 1-0 at in-form Margate in difficult conditions but could of rescued a point from the game when Roman Michael-Percil hit the post from 30 yards out. The Essex side have played six away games in 2019 winning one (at Burgess Hill Town), drawing two (at Brightlingsea Regent and Corinthian Casuals) and losing three (at Carshalton Athletic, Worthing and Dorking Wanderers). Merstham will be the favourites for this game but Harlow will be looking to put things right after last week's horror showing. 

Whitehawk (19th) v Tonbridge Angels (3rd) 

The Hawks have lost their last two games after winning four in a row that lifted them out of the bottom three. The Angels have failed to score in three of their last six games - their last two away games have ended 0-0 which suggests this could be a close game. 

Wingate & Finchley (20th) v Potters Bar Town (17th) 

Wingate's players will be in a positive mood after last weekend's victory at Harlow Town but will know that performance will all be forgotten should they lose against Potters Bar Town who make the short trip to The Maurice Rebak Stadium. The Scholars are only four points above the home side in the table and still in danger of finishing in the bottom three. They are another side finding it hard to score at present with just five goals in the last ten games - equally they are good at the back letting in just six in those games. I think this will be a home victory but it won't be as easy for them as last week as Potters Bar will defend well. I predict either 2-0 or 2-1. 

ANAGRAM RECORDS SEMI-FINAL - HUGE GAME FOR WARE SPORTS & CLAPTON CFC

There is likely to be larger than usual attendance for a Ware Sports home game this Saturday as they entertain Clapton CFC in the Anagram Records Trophy Semi-Final who will bring a good away following to Hertfordshire.

The game sees Step Seven Ware Sports (currently fifth in the Herts Senior County League Premier Division) take on Step Eight Clapton CFC (fourth in the Middlesex County League Division One Central & East). The visitors have won their last five games in a row with the home side winning four of their last six so it's all set up to be an entertaining game. Clapton have beaten two HSCFL Premier Division sides on the way to semi-finals including top of the table Letchworth Garden City Eagles. 

Entrance to the game, which is being held on the 3G pitch at the rear of the Wodson Park completed, is £3 which includes a match programme. My advice would be to arrive early if you are going to the game.

The top four of the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier South Divison are currently separated by just three points so the race of the title is set to be one of the most exciting in non-league football this season. The surprise team are no doubt the Metropolitan Police FC who last season finished tenth in the Bostik Premier and were moved into the new division along with Hendon, Harrow Borough and Staines Town. Long serving Manager Jim Cooper left the club as he couldn't commit to the longer distance travelling and he was replaced by Gavin McPherson who had been assistant to Cooper as well as a player at the club.

With all the upheaval at the club last summer I'm sure nobody thought that, with eight games to play, they would be in with a chance of the league title in their new division. 

Taunton Town were Division One West champions last season so are potentially looking at two promotions in as many seasons although two drawn games and two defeats in their last four games has put a dent in their title aspirations. Salisbury were also promoted from the same division as runner's up so are looking to move up to Step Two of the non-league ladder which will be one step below of where Salisbury City played in 2014 - Salisbury FC were formed after City were dissolved in 2014. 

Weymouth finished fifth in the Southern League Premier Division last season but lost in the play-off semi-final to Kings Lynn Town. 

Below is a table showing the records of the games played between the current top four. Met Police FC still have to travel to Weymouth (date to be arranged) and Taunton Town (Saturday 6th April) the results of which could be pivotal to which team finishes top of the table at the end of the season.

HUGE VICTORY FOR COCKFOSTERS IN THE BATTLE TO AVOID THE DROP

The teams who finish in the bottom two of the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division will be relegated to Division One at the end of the season so Saturday's game between the current two teams occupying the relegation zone was an important one as Stotfold welcomed Cockfosters to Roker Park. 

On a very blustery and windy day it was 'Fosters who came away with a highly important 1-2 victory. Jermaine Francis had put the home side 1-0 up early on with a great finish from the edge of the box only for the impressive Reece Mosanya (who played very well in their game at London Colney in January LINK) to make it 1-1 after only 8 minutes. He received the ball on the right hand by line with his run taking the ball past two Stotfold defenders and then his shot deflecting into the net. 

George Beattie won the game for the away side on 80 minutes when Mosanya did well on the right hand side and his low cross was smashed high into the net by the former Hertford Town, Chalfont St Peter and Enfield Town forward. It's 'Foster's first win in eight league games.
