WICKERS WINNERS AT WORMLEY
Match played on Saturday 24th November
Last season Hackney Wick were members of the step 5 Essex Senior League and Wormley Rovers the Step 7 Hertfordshire Senior County League Premier Division but for this season they are both members of the newly formed Step 6 Thurlow Nunn League Division One South as The Wickers were relegated and Rovers moved up after a fifth placed finish in their division.
Going into this game the visitors had won six of their thirteen league games played with the hosts on three from fourteen. The Wormley Sports Club in Church Lane is a great place to watch footy with a very nice bar and cafe along with a small stand on one side - I thought it was great to see a local club doing well and moving up to step six over the summer.
Interview with Rover's Manager Adam Arnold from June 2018
THE 'HEDGE END' OF THE GROUND
The game was a tight one with not much between the two sides. The result was decided over a five minute period at the end of the first half when Wormley were awarded a penalty which was struck well wide of the keeper's right hand post - this was followed shortly by Jonas Fuadianitu's goal for Hackney as he tapped home from short range following a cross from the right hand side.
They followed this win up with a nice 3-0 midweek home victory over May & Bakers on Wednesday - they host Burnham Ramblers this weekend at The Old Spotted Dog where they are currently ground sharing. The club will be unveiling their new anti knife crime kit.
THROUGH THE HEDGE THERE WAS ANOTHER GAME TAKING PLACE AS WORMLEY ROVERS VETS TOOK ON BEALONIANS FC VETS IN THE VFA CHALLENGE CUP
Wormley Rovers have a local derby against SSFML Division One side FC Broxbourne Borough in the Hertfordshire Senior Centenary Trophy which hopefully will be a well attended game.

Broadfields United, with just one defeat in their sixteen league games played, currently lead the way in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One but are closely followed by local rival's Harefield United and Hillingdon Borough along with Winslow United who are ten points on the top with three games in hand.
Harefield United are unbeaten in their fourteen games played winning twelve with two draws coming against Broadfields United (2nd game of the season) and London Lions (4th game of the season) - they have won their last eleven league games in a row. The Hares next two games come against two teams who are struggling down the bottom of the table away at Codicote on Tuesday evening and on their travels again at Amersham Town on Saturday.
Enfield Borough, currently in fifth place, are the team to watch if you like goals. There has been an average of 5.56 goals per game in their eighteen league games played.

At the bottom of the table it's been a really tough season for Hatfield Town who continue to ground share at London Colney's Cotslandwick along with Codicote who have improved of late winning two and drawing two of their last seven league games played - they have lost their last three games against two teams in the current top six Enfield Borough and Winslow United along with mid-table Buckingham Town.
Amersham Town are just above them on ten points with their only win in their last seven league games coming against Hatfield Town on Saturday 17th November which they won 6-1 with former Aylesbury FC and Leverstock Green player Bertie Squire-Adams scoring twice.
One team who have had a real mixed season are Wodson Park who are currently in fourteenth place as you'll see from the comparison table below. There next game is a tough one away at table topper's Broadfields United tomorrow night.

PREMIER DIVISION - TOP FIVE ONLY
The race for the title in the SSMFL Premier Division is shaping up to be a really exciting one with Biggleswade FC currently top of the table. They secured a very important home victory over local rival's Arlesey Town yesterday after being 0-1 down at half time with Town's Lorrell Smith netting for the visitors. Goals from Lee Northfield, Alex Marsh, Ryan Inskip and Justin Leavers in the second half secured a fine 4-1 win for the home side.

Tring Athletic have lost their last two games in a row against an in form Biggleswade United and a surprise result yesterday as Wembley, who have been struggling down the bottom of the table, won 0-2 at The Grass Roots Stadium.
Hadley who had been in excellent form of late winning an amazing ten league games in a row went down 0-1 to Colney Heath who are currently in seventh place in the league.
I saw Arlesey Town play Leverstock Green in mid-week in a game which they won 2-0 through goals from Alex O'Brien and and Lorrell Smith who I was very impressed with. He is a proper centre forward who holds the ball up well bringing in other players, has a real burst of pace and give him a chance in front of goal he'll hit the target more often than not. Alex Yearwood on the right hand side of midfield for Leverstock Green was their stand out player - He put in a number of dangerous crosses but the visitor's were unable to score. Yearwood has played for St Albans City and East Thurrock United previously as well as Daventry Town, Harpenden Town and Broadfields United.
For Arlesey's management team of Matt Endersby and James Hatch along with coaches Graeme Endersby, Keith West and Natasha Orchard-Smith to be in the top five of the table in tremendous achievement as when they joined the club in the summer there were no players after the club were relegated from the Southern League Division One East at the end of last season.

It's a HUGE two weeks for the current top two as next Saturday it's a Buildbase FA Vase Third Round game at The Grass Roots Stadium followed by a league game on Saturday 8th December at the Carlsberg Stadium. FC then face Hadley on Saturday 15th followed by the big Biggleswade Christmas derby on Saturday 22nd December when they make the short journey to play United - The corresponding game last season played on the Saturday before Christmas attracted a crowd of 235 - Hopefully this year that figure can be beaten especially with both sides having title aspirations.
Leighton Town and Leverstock Green are the only other sides left representing the league in the FA Vase.
Town got to the Quarter-Final stage last season and travel to The West Midlands next Saturday to face Lye Town of the Midland League Premier Division. The Flyers, as Lye Town are nick-named, are in mid table in their division and have a similar league record to Leighton who are also in mid table of the SSMFL Premier Division.
Leverstock Green have a tough trip to Histon on Sunday 2nd December. The Stutes, after four relegations in seven seasons, are currently top of the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties Premier Division and have only lost two games in league and cup all season. The game is played close to the ten year anniversary of Histon's most famous day when they beat Leeds United (then of League One) in the FA Cup Second Round 1-0 at home on Sunday 30th November 2008 in front of a crowd of 4,800. Leeds side that day included Fabian Delph, Robert Snodgrass and Luchiano Becchio.
At the bottom of the table it's been a difficult season for Stotfold - they are still to win a league game with four draws and thirteen defeats in their seventeen games played so far. Their only victory came in the FA Vase when they beat Essex Senior League side Leyton Athletic 4-0 - they went on to lose to West Essex in the next round.

HOW ARE LAST SEASON'S PROMOTED SIDES DOING?
Two clubs were promoted from the SSMFL Premier Division last season. Champion's Welwyn Garden City and runner's up Berkhamsted moved up to the Evo Stik Southern League Division One (Central) and both are doing very well with The Comrades currently in fourth position and The Citizens in seventh position which is brilliant to see.
Adam Fisher's side won 3-0 at home to North Leigh yesterday with Steve Bateman's side winning 0-1 at AFC Dunstable.

TOWER HAMLETS TASTE ERRINGTON CUP VICTORY AFTER FIVE GOAL THRILLER AT SAWBO
Match played on Tuesday 13th November 2018
Tower Hamlets recorded a memorable victory at Sawbridgeworth Town in the Essex Senior League Errington Challenge Cup last Tuesday. The game started with a bang with the visitors scoring a cracking goal from outside of the box only for the home side to score to make it 1-1 after around five minutes. Hamlets scored a second to make it 1-2 and looked in control of the game only to be reduced to ten men when their player was adjudged to have used his arm/elbow in a challenge - see mini highlights from 0.38secs.
Sawbridgeworth then had lots of possession and made it 2-2 early in the second half but the East London side regrouped and looked the better side even with 10 men and made it 2-3. It was a really exciting game with Hamlet's going close to make it a more comfortable victory and Sawbridgeworth putting the pressure on towards the end of the game but unable to find a goal.
The extended match highlights are 28 minutes long!

MIDDLESEX COUNTY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION - THE RACE FOR THE TITLE
PREMIER DIVISION
CURRENT TABLE - TOP FOUR ONLY
TOP THREE v TOP THREE TABLE
It's looking like it's going to be a three-way fight between Pitshanger Dynamo, St Pantelemion and PFC Victoria with a seven point gap currently between third placed PFC and fourth placed Sporting Hackney.
St Panteleimon with eight wins and one draw in their nine games played so far look best placed at present although with many games still to play there will certainly be some twists and turns. The club were only formed in 2015 and originally played in the KOPA Cypriot Sunday League before joining the Middlesex County League Division One (Central and East) for the 2017/18 season.
The club won their division last season winning eighteen and drawing four of their twenty-two league games played scoring a very impressive 102 goals in those games. They are unbeaten in the league so far this season too which means after their switch to the Saturday game in 2017 they impressively haven't lost a league game as yet. They are currently ground-sharing with North Greenford United.
The current table toppers, Pitshanger Dynamo, were members of the league since when it was founded in 1984 with the club having been formed in 1972. They stayed until 1997 with their best finish being in 1986/87 when they finished fifth in the Premier Division table which Evershed Social won.
They returned in 2010 and were first time winners of Division Two pipping Feltham 'A' to the title. They moved up to the Premier Division for the 2015/16 season having finished second in Division One (West) the previous season. Since then they have finished 4th, 5th and 8th in the Premier Division. They currently ground-share with Hanwell Town.
PFC Victoria London are another new club to have made risen through the divisions having only been formed in 2016 they won Division Two in 16/17 and were promoted from Division One (West) last season. Could the club formed amongst the Polish community in the Capital rise up the pyramid like FC Romania (formed in 2006) have done so over the past few season? They are currently ground sharing with Hanworth Villa.
At the bottom of the table it's been a tough season so far for South Kilburn who have lost seven and drawn one of their eight league games played to date. They have won one game in The Alec Smith Premier Division Cup 4-1 against Brentham where they play CB Hounslow United Reserves in the next round. They lost to 4-2 to Chipperfield Corinthians in the Anagram Records Trophy and 8-0 to Bridon Ropes in the London Senior Trophy. Their next game is a tough one at home to Pitshanger Dynamo.

Due to be played on Saturday 23rd February
Clapton Community v Chipperfield Corinthians
A crowd of 356 people saw Clapton's first round game against Epping Town so this should be another well attended game. Clapton had a great result in the second round on Saturday when they won 0-2 at Letchworth Garden City Eagles with Sherwin Stanley scoring both goals. The Eagles are second in the Herts Senior County Premier and currently unbeaten in the league - Corinthians are mid-table.
Old Bradwell United v Catholic United
The home side who are mid-table in the Spartan South Midlands League Division Two welcome the current Essex Olympian Premier Division title holders Catholic United who are currently struggling towards the opposite end of the table this campaign.
PFC Victoria London v New Salamis
A really interesting game between the Middlesex County League Premier Division and the Hertfordshire Senior County League Premier Division title challengers.
Sarratt or FC Hamlets v Ware Sports
FC Hamlets (of the EOFL Division One) visit SSMFL D2 side Sarratt this coming weekend for their Round Two game with the winner hosting Ware Sports of the HSCL Premier Division.

SIX GOALS SHARED BETWEEN CODICOTE AND RAYNERS LANE
It turned out to be an eventful game in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One on Tuesday evening when Codicote entertained Rayners Lane. The Cod, who had not registered a win in their opening nine games, had won their last two games against Risborough Rangers (6-0 away) and Wodson Park 3-2 at home so when they went 2-0 up inside the first ten minutes via Tom Massey and Jack Skinner it looked like they would record their third win of the season. Rayners Lane got a goal back and it could of been all square at half time as they had the best chances and this continued into the second half when they scored another two goals to go 2-3 up. A red card a piece for each side following an off the ball clash saw the last ten minutes being ten men v ten men. Codicote scored an equaliser right at the end of the game to earn an important point via Skinner from the edge of the box.
There was a somewhat controversial incident in the second half as following a clash of heads between two home players the referee played on and then once play had stopped he booked the Cod player for leaving the field of play (I assume this was the reason) to get treatment. See below clip of the incident.
Cod's next game is away at Langford on Saturday with Rayners Lane at home to Risborough Rangers also taking place tomorrow.

STANWAY ROVERS | 6 | +3 | 12 |
Stansted currently lead the way in the Essex Senior League with twelve wins and three defeats from their fifteen games played. Their defeats have come against fellow title challenger's Saffron Walden Town (L 0-1) on Tuesday 16th October and Hullbridge Sports (L 1-2) on Saturday 18th August along with local rival's Takeley (L 0-2) Tuesday 7th August.
Takeley were one of the pre-season favourites for the title and currently placed in fifth place could still be involved but five defeats in nine games after winning their opening four games has put a big dent in their hopes.
Hullbridge Sports, Saffron Walden Town and Sporting Bengal United make up the current top four in the table. United are in great form winning seven of their last ten league games - Could it be their best season since joining step five football and the Kent League in 2003? Since then they have finished 17th, 14th, 15th, 17th, 17th, 17th, 15th, 15th, 10th, 11th, 14th, 20th, 12th, 19th and 10th.
Stanway Rovers were also expected to do well after switching from the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division over the summer under the management of Lee Fisher who joined the club from Braintree Town Reserves. Following a poor start to the campaign Fisher parted company with Rovers in mid October and they have made the appointment of former Redbridge, Aveley, Maldon & Tiptree and Thamesmead Town boss Terry Spillane. He was also boss with Stansted when they won the ESL title in 2010 and is probably most well known for leading Redbridge (then of the Isthmian Division One North) to the FA Cup Second Round Proper where they played League Two side Crawley Town. I expect to see Stanway move up the table from their current thirteenth position.
LEADING GOALSCORERS
LEAGUE GAMES ONLY (appearances in brackets)
Jay Knight (Sporting Bengal United) - 13 goals (9)
Callum Ibe (Stansted) - 12 goals (13)
Dwade James (Leyton Athletic) - 12 goals (14)
Charncey Dash (St Mags) - 11 goals (15)
Lewis Francis (Saffron Walden) - 11 goals (14)
James Peagram (Walthamstow) - 11 goals (15)
Jay Knight of Sporting Bengal United is currently top of the scoring charts with an impressive total of thirteen goals in just nine league games played. Perhaps former Tilbury striker Dwade James is the stand out player scoring twelve games in fourteen games for Leyton Athletic who are struggling second from bottom in the table winning only two of their fifteen games played.

SOME FACTS AND STATS ABOUT THE SEASON SO FAR
WITHOUT A WIN - Barkingside
It's been a difficult start to the season for the East London side. They have drawn five and lost eleven of their sixteen league games played. Their last result was an impressive 2-2 draw at Saffron Walden Town so maybe their first win will come soon! Their next league games come against Takeley (H), Southend Manor (A) and then a run of local derby games against Redbridge (Home and Away), Ilford, Walthamstow, Sporting Bengal United, Tower Hamlets and Leyton Athletic.
MOST GOALS SCORED - Saffron Walden Town 47
The Bloods have scored a massive 47 goals in their sixteen games played which equates to 2.98 per game. They are closely followed by Sporting Bengal United who have hit the net 42 times in their fourteen games which a slightly better average per game of 3.
NO HOME WINS - Redbridge and Barkingside
NO AWAY WINS - Barkingside, Tower Hamlets and Enfield
A comparison of Tower Hamlets and Enfield's home and away form shows a real difference - they certainly currently don't like playing on their travels. Both teams have scored just one goal each away from home.
