Some massive news from the non-league scene in East London has been announced today as the fans of Essex Senior League side Clapton FC, formed in 1877, have announced they have joined the club's surviving life members to announced they will field a team for the forthcoming season with the supporters, volunteers and members making the decision to break with the entity affiliated to the ESL in order to preserve the legacy of one London's oldest and most historic football clubs. The announcement comes just days after The Ton's entire youth team structure quit the club to move to Hackney Wick FC.
The decision has been made due to their dispute with the club's current owner where they have been boycotting the club's home games at The Old Spotted Dog for the entire 2017/18 season. More details can be found on claptoncfc.co.uk.
CLAPTON COMMUNITY FOOTBALL CLUB will play in the Middlesex County Football League and will be completely fan owned where each member will have an equal vote in the running of the club with their mission statement wonderfully championing community football with it's aim to promote wider community participation in local grassroots football. They will play home games at Wadham Lodge in Walthamstow.
The campaign and fight to save The Old Spotted Dog, which is London's oldest football ground, from liquidation is ongoing and is back by the local Member of Parliament, The Mayor of Newham, local councillors and nearly 2000 people who have signed an on line petition to keep the ground as a community asset. They have been helped and advised by the marvellous people at Supporter's Direct to get to this stage.
I'm sure the Middlesex County League will have some record attendances to report for the 2018/19 campaign. Three hugely anticipated pre-season fixtures have announced so far with more to follow in the following week

TUESDAY 7th AUGUST
