A TRIP TO WILTSHIRE - HASHTAG UNITED'S FIRST PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
Some people reacted with negative comments about Hashtag United joining the non-league football pyramid at step six for the forthcoming season - someone even wrote that it was 'not a good day for the purists and traditionalists'.
However it's good to see some of the initial pessimistic comments have been far out-weighed with positives ones of late. Spencer Owen (the man who formed Hashtag United) started making You Tube videos by covering East Thurrock United's progress in the 2013/14 Isthmian League season.
He formed the team in 2016 with their videos gaining hundreds of thousands of views on social media and raising over £50,000 for charities and good causes.
Jay Devereux (who was assistant manager at East Thurrock United) has been named the first official manager of Hashtag United in their maiden Eastern Counties League Division One South campaign.
Devereux is well known around the local non-league scene having played for Romford, Ford United, Dagenham & Redbridge and Barking along with being manager of Redbridge - he followed Dean Holdsworth in the hot-seat with The Motormen.
Hashtag's first official pre-season friendly is scheduled for Saturday 7th July when they visit Swindon Supermarine - The Wiltshire club's chairman Jez Webb's comments (shown above) echo what many people think in that Hashtag's venture into non-league football will be nothing but positive in bringing the game we love to a new on-line audience of thousands of people and adding many more fans at grounds in the new ECL Division One South for the 2018/19 campaign.
Hashtag United also have games against Romford (who now ground share with East Thurrock United) and at Wessex League side Bournemouth scheduled for Saturday 14th July and Saturday 21st July.
