THE ROAD TO WEMBLEY BEGINS
The Emirates FA Cup for 2017/18 kicked off tonight at The Hollow as Biggleswade United made the very short trip to Potton United. United play in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division and are expected to do well this season with their opponents one step below them in the United Counties League Division One.
This was an excellent game between two good sides with some excellent play throughout. Potton attacked well with right winger Daniel Webb and powerful centre-forward Aaron Murrell standing out as well as their goal keeper Will Cook who made a world class save from a free kick in the second half. Murrell had a real battle with Biggleswade's James Smith who was playing on the right hand side of a back three - both had fantastic games.
There was some great play in the second half - the home side's best chance came when Murrell held the ball up well as he'd been doing all night enabling him to turn and direct a shot just wide of the post. Biggleswade's best opportunity was the aforementioned free kick which was palmed away by Cook just when the ball looked to be heading for the top corner.
The game was played in front of a good crowd of 252 people - both sides can go into next Tuesday's replay in a confident mood on this display despite there being no goals.
