Essex Senior League Hackney Wick have proved that many football clubs aren't just that by setting up a charity (The Wickers Foundation) to combat gun, knife and gang culture in their home borough. The club say "We seek to use preventative measures to deter young men and women from the danger of gangs. We believe that opening a community centre in Hackney will help reduce gang related crimes in the area. Using the community centre as our base, we will ensure that young people have access to more positive role models and opportunities, preventing youth from the threat of crime through education, opportunity and mentorship."
