Enfield Town's pre-season line-up has been announced with two games commemorating famous games of the past standing out. Skelmersdale United visit Donkey Lane on Saturday 22nd July which see's the 1967 FA Amateur Cup final between the old Enfield FC and Skelmersdale remembered. Skem lost 2-3 to The Town last summer and had a season to forget in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division finishing bottom of the table. The 135 year old club were faced with possible extinction due not be able to agree a new or extended lease with the owners of their ground. They have agreed a ground-share with Prescot Cables which is around 15 miles away from their spiritual home.
A week later The Town visit Highgate United of the Midland League Premier Division which commemorates the Amateur Cup game of 1967 which was abandoned after a lightning strike saw several players collapse. Tony Allden never regained consciousness and unfortunately passed away the next day in hospital aged just 23 years old. The re-arranged game was played at Villa Park in front of over 30,000 people.
The Midland League has "The Tony Allden Memorial Cup" competition named in his honor as is a stand at the club's Tythe Barn Lane which was renamed last season in a short ceremony before their game with Long Eaton United - some Enfield Town fans visited for this game to show their respects.
Highgate United finished ninth in the Midland League Premier Division last season.
Town also have more local games against Spartan South Midlands League Division Two side Amersham Town, Isthmian League Division One (North) sides Haringey Borough, Cheshunt and Heybridge Swifts as well as SSMFL Division One Sun Sports who for people not in the know are based in the Cassiobury area of Watford just a short distance from Vicarage Road.
