HARPENDEN TOWN SECURE THE ALL IMPORTANT THREE POINTS VERSUS BALDOCK TOWN

Game played on Tuesday 18th April

This game pitted third v second in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One with the winner being firmly put into the favourite position to finish in second place (only two go up to the Premier Division) and maybe even win the league subject to Biggleswade FC's (the current leaders) results. Therefore there was no surprise to see a good crowd of 189 at Rothamsted Park including a good travelling support from Baldock Town.

Kyle McLeish scored the only goal of a scrappy game in the third minute with a good finish from just inside the penalty box - Harpenden Town won't be bothered how they played just that they got the all important win that following their 2-1 victory over Codicote on Saturday 22nd April in front of a lower attendance of 67 just about confirms* their promotion to the Premier Division they last played in during the 2005/06 season.

The away side had a good amount of possession during the second half but never really created any chances to work the Harpenden Town goalkeeper.

* Baldock Town completed their season with a 0-1 away victory at Ampthill Town on Saturday 22nd April. Both teams are now level on points with Harpenden Town ahead by a better goal difference (+71 against +64) so they would have to suffer a disastourous result in their final game against Brimsdown this weekend for Baldock to overtake them.

Table topper's Biggleswade FC can win the title tonight with a win away to Wodson Park. For Baldock Town it looks to be a second consecutive season of a third placed finish in the Division One agonisingly missing out on the promotion everyone at the club really wants - they will go again for the 2017/18 campaign and be one of the favourites for the title.
