Brightlingsea Regent won the top of the table clash against Maldon & Tiptree yesterday in front of 261 people at North Road. Tom Richardson got the only goal of the game for the home side on 74 minutes which puts Regent just three points behind M&T with two games in hand. They are the two clear favourites for the title at present with Thurrock and AFC Hornchurch looking at closing the gap and possibly pushing on for the top-spot.
Like the Premier Division it looks like the top four will be the top four come the end of the season with a number of teams battling it out to finish in the final play-off spot. Of those teams its Bowers, Cheshunt and Aveley who look best placed to finish fifth as they have only lost 9,8 and 9 games so far as opposed to Haringey Borough, Norwich United and Bury Town currently all on 12 defeats. Recent form has seen Bury drop down the table - they have lost their last four games.
As you'll see from below next Saturday there are some very important games in what could be a pivotal day for many teams.
There are many more games to play with a lot of exciting twists and turns to come but if Brightlingsea Regent do go up it'll be their third promotion in five seasons - In 2012/13 they finished third in the Thurlow Nunn Division One behind Cambridge University Press and Newmarket Town.
Liam Nash (26) of Maldon and Tiptree currently leads the golden boot table closely followed by Brightlingsea Regent's Aaron Condon (22) with Joe Gatting (Dereham Town) and Leon McKenzie (AFC Hornchurch) on 19 goals.
KEY GAMES COMING IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS
SATURDAY 11th FEBRUARY
AVELEY V BOWERS & PITSEA
Its been a fantastic debut season at Step Four after stepping up from the Essex Senior League. This is a must win game for both sides in the race for a play-off spot.
HARINGEY BOROUGH v CHESHUNT
An A10 derby between two teams with play-off aspirations. Only M&T have scored more goals than Haringey who have hit the back of the net an impressive 77 times.
MALDON & TIPTREE v THURROCK
The table toppers have lost their last two league games which has put a major dent in their title chances. They will need to get back to winning ways soon but will find Thurrock very tough opponents here.
FRIDAY 17th FEBRUARY
BOWERS & PITSEA v TILBURY
Friday night football at The Len Salmon Stadium which will attract a bigger than usual crowd for this local derby. The Dockers still have an outside chance of a play-off spot but can't afford to lose many more games.
SATURDAY 18th FEBRUARY
BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT v AVELEY
A tough game for the title challengers against play-off chasing Aveley.
