SEVEN GOAL THRILLER
The thirty supporters and club officials who gathered on a chilly evening at Wodson Park witnessed an amazing game yesterday. It was fifteenth placed Wodson Park hosting sixteenth placed London Lions in the Spartan South Midlands Division One.
Wodson went into the game on their best run of form for the season with four wins in their previous six games and scoring twenty goals..However, their last game was a 6-1 away defeat at Chesham United Reserves on Saturday.
London Lions had also won four in six league games but lost their last two fixtures 8-2 at Buckingham Athletic and narrowly 0-1 at home to third placed FC Broxbourne Borough. The had scored 15 goals with one of their victories being 4-3 over Chesham United Reserves.
The first half was a rather scrappy forgetful affair which saw the Lions take a 0-1 lead. I don't think anybody who was present would of expected six goals to be scored in the second half.
The Lions went 0-2 through ex Enfield Towner Dean Nyman who still has a turn of pace (as you'll see from the video) and then 0-3 through a great finish under the home keeper. With around 25 minutes to go it all looked like it was going to end in a comfortable victory for the away side as Wodson hadn't really troubled the Lion's keeper up to this stage.
Wodson scored two in as many minutes through a free kick that would grace a Premier League goal of the month compilation if scored by a Hazard or Sanchez etc and then a header at the far post from a corner. They then made it all square with another well taken goal through a volley just inside the box.
With the minutes ticking down Wodson went for the win and got the three points when their player raced onto a through ball and lofted the ball over the advancing keeper in the final minute of the game. It was a truly amazing come back which will give the Wodson Park team loads of confidence and shows they have a terrific team spirit at present.
I think that the officials have to take some credit for allowing what was an amazing game of football to flow and make all the correct decisions. They were all very good - in particular the Assistant Referee who still managed to flag for a throw in when accidently taken out by a player in the first half. Well done to referee Laurentiu Hantea and his two assistant's Tom Gibson and Matt Saunders.
Wodson go to Southall this Saturday before travelling to Gosling Park next Tuesday for a local derby versus Hatfield Town. The Lions go to Harpenden Town on Saturday before hosting Baldock Town next Wednesday.
