TOWN THROUGH TO CHARITY CUP SECOND ROUND

Enfield Town entertained North Greenford United in the Middelsex Charity Cup First Round on Tuesday night in a game which saw repeat of the 2010 final which the Berkley's Field side famously won.

Town manager Bradley Quinton used the game to play some of his recent signings and fringe players along with James Winchester and Richard Bryan from the under 21 side who started on the bench. It was good to see midfielder Winchester getting on for the final 10 minutes of the game and he showed some good touches.

The game ended 1-0 with goal scored by debutant Shawn Beveney in the third minute after some good work by Ade Cole whose chipped shot rebounded off the post. Another player making his first start for the Town was Yannis Drais (a fomer youth team player at Cardiff City and French side RC Lens) played some impressive though balls that set up some nice attacking play. In particular he played through left-back Phil Kane whose two dangerous forward attacking runs ended with his final touch letting him down.

The away side who are struggling in 20th place of the Southern League Division One (Central) with just three wins in their eleven games, played some nice passing football with David Manu (number 8) standing out but they lacked a cutting edge up front and never really threatened the home back line. When they did their centre-forward Bradley Morris's shot was well saved by another Town debutant in goalkeeper Anthony Page. Town could of made it two before the break when Leon Antoine was very unlucky with a powerful shot which smashed against the post.

The second half fizzled out a little with the Town side's performance a little disjointed but with so many player's making their first starts it wasn't too much to worry about.

It's a very important couple of weeks for North Greenford United coming up as they face three away games against teams around them at the bottom of the table. On Saturday they face a local derby against AFC Hayes (21st position) and then next Tuesday they go to Leighton Town (19th) before travelling to Beaconsfield SYCOB (22nd) next Saturday.

Enfield Town travel to Ashford Town in the next round who are currently in second place in the Combined Counties Premier Division.
