THE BLUE BOYS GO TOP OF THE LEAGUE

After two seasons of struggling in the Premier Division of the Spartan South Midlands League Hatfield Town were eventually relegated to Division One at the end of the 2013/14 campaign. The club brought in Ashley Purser as new manager who had been very successful in the Hertfordshire Senior County League with Bedmond Sports and Social FC and have had a brilliant start to the new season with the 3-1 victory at home to Crawley Green yesterday evening putting them top of the league. Match highlights are below which saw Hatfield go 1-0 from the penalty spot and then score two more goals in the second half. Crawley Green had equalised just prior to the half time mark with a shot from well outside the box - one which caught me out on camera work as unfortunately I didn't manage to capture it on film. The away side were reduced to 10 ten men in the second period when a Hatfield player was brought down when through on goal...from the replay it appears only very minimal contact was made....see what you think on from around 4m 30secs on the video.

The race for the top two places in Division One is looking to be another exciting one with the current top seven in the league as follows -

POS TEAM P W D L GF GA GD PTS
1 HATFIELD TOWN 10 9 1 0 31 10 +21 28
2 HARPENDEN TOWN 12 8 2 2 26 17 +9 26
3 BEDFORD 8 6 2 0 23 3 +20 20
4 BALDOCK TOWN 10 6 2 2 16 7 +9 20
5 RISBOROUGH RANGERS 9 6 1 2 25 15 +10 19
6 WELWYN GARDEN CITY 6 6 0 0 22 1 +21 18
7 CODICOTE 9 5 2 2 26 13 +13 17

Hatfield's local rival's Welwyn Garden City have a 100% winning record and they along with The Blue Boys and Bedford are the three teams left without defeat. The Citizens make the short trip to Wodson Park tonight with Codicote also on the road travelling to London Lions.

The big Christmas Derby between Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield Town at Herns Lane looks set to be a well attended game on Saturday 27th December. It could be a top of the table clash!
