Any football game between two wonderfully teams named "Jagerbombers FC" and "Mon The Biff FC" was always going to be an entertaining one and this game did not disappoint as both sides played some impressive football in the Hitchin Sunday League Division Two final which was played on Sunday 7th April at Arlesey Town's stadium.
Mon The Biff FC are making their debut in the Hitchin Sunday League this season and have had a brilliant campaign to date. To clear things up the name of the team comes from the band Biffy Clyro. They were formed in 2006 as group of Biffy fans (Mon The Biff is chant used by fans at their concerts which basically means Come on The Biff) playing in charity 6 a-side tournaments and have grown since then. In the league this season they have played and won all nine of their matches and as well as qualifying for this divisional cup they also play in the prestigious George John Cup Final on Sunday 28th April against Premier Division CC FC. Highlights of the 2010 final can be found here
Jagerbombers FC are in the second full season in the Hitchin League and have won nine of the their sixteen league games to date.
The route to the final for MTB has been beating Locomotiv Preston 2-0, White Horse Kimpton 5-2 and The Green Man 5-0. Jagerbombers had beaten Herts United 2-1 and The White Horse Arlesey 3-1 in the semi-final. Earlier in the season MTB had beaten The Jager's 4-2
It was Jagerbombers who had the best chances of the first half with Jordan Carter (listed as "Fifa Skills" in the programme) rattling the post with a great shot and also showing some flash skills, touches and turns. Both sides had chances in the second half with both keepers making some great saves in what was a brilliant game. From this performance I think he could easily play to a good standard in Saturday football. He is yellow number 10 in the video.
MTB won the game with penalty kick given for a soft trip in the area just moments after they had had a hotly disputed free kick given on the edge of the box when they argued it was inside the box. Late on in the game the Jager's keeper made an error and let the ball slip into the net from a low cross from the right hand wing which was very cruel luck on him as he had performed admirably throughout the game.
The Jagers will get a chance to exact revenge on the Biffy boys on Thursday 18th April when they meet in a re-arranged league fixture. Follow Mon The Biff on twitter - @monthebifffc
