WHEN WILL WOODFORD UNITED WIN??

Evo-Stik Central side Woodford United are currently well anchored to the bottom of their division after playing and losing all fourteen of their league games so far. They have also lost in the FA Cup to Dereham Town, Didcot Town in the Red Insure Cup (the Southern League Cup) and to Rushall Olympic in the FA Trophy.

In their fourteen league games they have scored only four and let in forty-three goals. Fans of the Reds have only seen them score one league goal at their Byfield Road ground this season which came against AFC Hayes on the 1st September. The other three came on the road at Biggleswade Town, Northwood and Guildford City.

TheColdEnd loves an underdog and would love to see Woodford United record a win soon and with five home games scheduled for December could they be celebrating gaining an all important three points?

This Saturday is a massive game for them as they entertain third from bottom Chertsey Town who themselves have only recorded one league victory over North Greenford United in the second game of the season? Thatcham Town, Leighton Town and North Greenford United also visit Northamptonshire in December meaning they face all four of the teams above them. Should they still be without a win when they make the short journey for the Boxing Day derby versus Daventry Town they will almost certainly be facing relegation to the United Counties League at the end of the season.

STOTFOLD RESERVES STUNNER!!

The pitch at Hoddesdon Town's Lowfield ground looked in very good condition last night where The Lillywhite's reserve side took on Stotfold reserves in one of the only non-league games to take place in the local area. Wingate and Finchley also survived the rainy conditions to play Leiston in the Ryman Premier Division in a game which finished 2-2.

The last time TheColdEnd saw a game at Lowfield when it had been raining it was a little different as you can see from the pictures below.

LOWFIELD - NOVEMBER 2012. PITCH IN GOOD CONDITION.

This Spartan South Midlands League Reserve Division One game was a decent one with both sides showing 100% commitment throughout. The game started with the away goalkeeper bashing his head against a post when he dived to save a header which caused a delay of five minutes or so. Credit to him that he continued after looking a little groggy following the incident. Hoddy looked in control but couldn't convert their superiority into goals. The closest they went was hitting the post and when it looked easier to score their player put it wide (see from 1min 42secs on the video). Stotfold then came to life and hit the crossbar from a header following a corner but it was Hoddy who went in 1-0 up at the break thanks to Billy Wingrove goal (the only thing I didn't manage to capture on camera!!).

Stotfold looked a much better side in the second 45 minutes and scored a deserved equaliser which was a stunner from outside of the penalty box. Not goalkeeper would of saved it.  Have a look at it from 4min on the video to find out.

Both teams plugged away with Hoddy perhaps looking the more dangerous but it was the visitors who returned to Bedfordshire with all three points thanks to a well worked late winner right on 90 minutes.

Whitehawk currently lead the way in the Ryman Premier Division on a total of 28 points after 14 games. The Hawks only two defeats have come against Lowestoft Town at home (1-3) and Hampton and Richmond away (0-1).

Margate, Wealdstone and Bury Town follow with The Stones only defeat coming away from home at Lewes.

Early league leader's Hampton and Richmond Borough have dropped down to fifth place after three defeats in their last six games but are still well in contention as they are only four points off top spot with a game in hand over Margate and Whitehawk.

Bognor Regis Town (P 15 PTS 24), Concord Rangers (14/22), Cray Wanderers (14/21), Kingstonian (12/20) and Lowestoft Town (12/19) follow in 6th to 10th place.

The Trawlerboys, who were one of the pre-season favourites, have fallen down the standings after 4 defeats in their least six league games.

United have a fantastic trip North in the second round where they travel to Blue Square North side FC Halifax. Hampton & Richmond still have to negotiate their tricky replay at Blue Square South Chelmsford City which was called off last night due to the waterlogged conditions. If The Beavers are lucky enough to get through they will travel to Blue Square Premier side Hereford United.

The big South-Coast derby. A short journey of around 9 miles separates The Enclosed Ground in East Brighton and The Dripping Pan. Could Lewes raise their game and spring a surprise on their big-spending neighbours?

Lowestoft Town v Wealdstone
The Trawler Boys have dropped down the table so this will be a must win for them to get back into contention. A repeat of last season's dramatic play-off semi-final which the home side won 2-1 in front of 1,158

Saturday 15th December
Wealdstone v Enfield Town
The big Middlesex derby which will evoke memories of the huge games between Enfield FC and The Stones when both sides were competing in the top division of the non-league game in the 1980s. Hopefully will attract a good crowd where the home side will be strong favourites but the Enfield Town squad will be well up for a competative game.

Whitehawk v Margate
Depending on results this could be 1st v 2nd or even 2nd v 1st. A really important game for both sides.

Lowestoft Town v Margate
If The Trawlerboys lose at home against Wealdstone this really will be a must win game for them.

THE BLUE BOYS KNOCKED OUT BY THE TIGERS

Tuesday night's game between Hatfield Town and London Tigers was played in front of the lowest home crowd The Blue Boys have attracted since they were promoted to the Spartan South Midlands League in 2008. Just 18 people ventured out in the pouring rain to watch The Dudley Lathom Memorial Premier Division Cup Second Round match at The Gosling Stadium.

In the Premier Division both sides are struggling near the foot of the table with the visitors second from bottom and the hosts fourth from bottom. The Tigers have had a change of manager this season after Giorgi Minashvili resigned following a run of six defeats in the six opening games of the season. Armand Kavaja (a former player and physio with the club) has since taken over in the hot-seat and the club are hopeful he can turn things around and lift the Tigers away from the relegation zone.

Going into the game the Tigers had a record of one win in six league and cup games being a very welcome 2-0 home win against Leverstock Green on Saturday 17th November. The Blue Boys had lost their last six league and cup games conceding 33 goals in the process.

Prior to the game there had been a big downpour of rain in the local area which had stopped upon TheColdEnd's arrival. The pitch looked in good condition with a zippy feel to it from the rain that had fallen which after around twenty minutes started to fall again and didn't let up until the end of the game. Not the best of conditions for fans and players as it was cold as well.

The game wasn't the best footballing wise and had a rather tetchy feel to it. The referee had a busy night in booking a number of players from both sides for silly fouls committed when they didn't need to be and a bit of 'handbags' pushing and shoving.

Both sides plugged away with The Tigers just about playing the more polished football. With the rain getting worse and the game drifting towards 90 minutes the thoughts of the small amount of fans present went to extra time. The Tigers had other idea when Wadah Ahmidi blasted the ball home from the edge of the box with around 7 minutes left to make it 0-1. To The Blue Boys credit they didn't give up with Gerald Alle scoring in injury time to send the game into extra time.

In extra time Tiger's substitute Khalid Hassan capitalised on a through ball which really should of been put into Row Z by the home defender instead of shielding it waiting for his goal keeper to come out to claim it. Hassan got hold of the ball, rounded the keeper and passed the ball into the net to make it 1-2 and celebrate The Tigers first victory on the road since Saturday 7th April 2012 when they own 1-2 at Harefield United in the Premier Division.

TOWN WIN AN AMAZING GAME AGAINST HENDON

Enfield Town centre back Craig McKay's tweet "6-3 win Against Hendon! That was for you Del! Rest In Peace you Legend x." summed up what was an amazing game at Donkey Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Del Deanus, who was remembered with an immaculately observed minute's silence before kick off, would of loved and enjoyed watching this game. Both teams played some tremendous skillful attacking football and the score really could of been about 8-8.

Hendon, who are still in the bottom two, following this defeat can take many positives from the game. In the last ten minutes they could of possibly brought the score back to 6-6 if it wasn't for some fantastic saves made by Town's Daniel East who could of easily collected the Man of the Match award given to Adam Wallace.

Town looked very good going forward especially in the second half. Liam Hope bagging a hat-trick (his second of the season) and Adam Wallace running himself into the ground against the Hendon back line were the stand out players for me. Tyler Campbell showed some deft touches, lots of speed and scored the best goal of the afternoon. Every player on the pitch for Town put in a real hard working performance and can be very proud of the result on the day. Well done boys!

THE REAL NORTH LONDON DERBY

Much of the football focus will be on Capital this Saturday as The North London Derby takes place between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the early kick off Barclay's Premier League television game.

However, just a few miles up the road at 3pm THE REAL NORTH LONDON DERBY takes place between Enfield Town and Hendon in the Ryman Premier Division. The bonus being you can watch this game live for a fraction of the price and use all the fantastic facilities Enfield Town's stadium in Donkey Lane has to offer.

It's an important game for both sides with Hendon looking for points to climb away from the bottom of the table and the home side looking to stabilise their position in mid-table and move upwards.

There are many links between both sides with Hendon managed by Gary McCann who fans will recognise from his time with Enfield FC in the 1990s and Town's Captain Mark Kirby being an ex Greens player. Town manager Steve Newing also wore the famous green shirt of Hendon making a few appearances from 1984 to 1987 with Hendon's centre forward Greg Ngoyi playing at Edgware Town when Steve and some of the Enfield squad played at The White Lion Ground.

REST IN PEACE - DEL DEANUS

I am very saddened to hear the news that ex Enfield Town joint manager Del Deanus has passed away after his brave battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

Del was much loved by many at Enfield Town FC and throughout the local non-league community.

My thoughts and love are with his friends and family at this time. RIP Del Deanus

TOWN OUT OF THE FA TROPHY

The Town bowed out of the FA Trophy for the 2012/13 season this afternoon. Billericay Town went 2-0 up in the opening ten minutes and scored another in the second half only for Adam Wallace and Tyler Campbell to put Town back into contention at 3-2. The game finished at that scoreline with the Blue Square South side going through to the First Qualifying Round.

Town face fourteenth placed Harrow Borough on Tuesday evening in a very important Ryman Premier Division fixture at Donkey Lane.

RYMAN PREMIER CHAMPIONS NEXT UP IN THE TROPHY

It couldn't get any tougher for Steve Newing's side this weekend when they travel to the reigning Ryman Premier Division champions Billericay Town in the FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round on Saturday. This article shows that The Blues are not taking the game lightly - Pitchero.com article

Craig Edward's side have made a steady start to their first Blue Square South campaign winning five of their thirteen games so far. They have played eight home league games and have lost just once against Basingstoke Town (1-3). They have also played AFC Hornchurch and Cambridge City at New Lodge in the FA Cup. They beat their Essex rivals 3-1 but Cambridge City recorded a famous 2-4 victory in their 3rd Qualifying Round replay.

They have recently signed ex Spurs central defender Alton Thelwell from Carshalton Athletic but he is cup tied having played for The Robins in a previous round. Ex Grays Athletic striker Alex Osborn, whom is on loan from League Two side Dagenham and Redbridge, has been amongst the goals this season but he is currently out injured until at least Christmas.

Having said this the Essex club have a very strong squad so this will be Enfield Town's biggest challenge of the season. Ex Brentford and Barnet player (amongst a host of other clubs) Glen Poole also likes a goal scoring 10 goals already this season.

The winner of this tie will receive £4,000 prize money from the FA and also qualify for the first round proper of the FA Trophy and a chance of a potential game with one of the bigger teams in the Blue Square Premier.

A quick word of warning is that with playing a Blue Square South Step 2 side comes higher admission prices. It's £12 for adults, £8 for concessions and £3 for under 16’s.

COULD THIS BE CHESHUNT'S SEASON FOR GLORY IN HERTFORDSHIRE?

A poor attendance of just sixty-five people turned out for the big local derby at Hertfingfordbury Park on Tuesday evening. Spartan South Midlands Premier Division side Hertford Town entertained their Ryman Division One (North) near neighbours Cheshunt in the Hertfordshire Senior Cup Round One.

HOW MANY WERE AT HERTFORD ON TUESDAY NIGHT?

The crowd was well down on Hertford's three previous home games against London Colney (108), St Maragaretsbury (103) and Holmer Green (97) with only a handful of Cheshunt fans at the game from what TheColdEnd could see.

Hertford managed by Marvin Samuel are really struggling towards the foot of their league table at present with only two wins (against Hatfield Town and Hillingdon Borough) in seventeen games. There have been some good results in the FA Vase against Crawley Green (W 2-3 in a replay) and away at Hoddesdon Town (W 3-5) and on this performance, especially in the first half, the ex Harlow Town boss has something to build on for the rest of the season.

Cheshunt played a strong side including ex Towner's Michael Deane and Max Mitchell (who started on the bench). The Ambers had made a good start to their league campaign but have recently dropped down the placings following four defeats in a row against Waltham Abbey, Heybridge Swifts, Redbridge and Harlow Town. The 0-4 victory recorded in this game will be a good morale boost for Tony Faulkner's squad who I beleive are capable of making a challenge for the play-offs. 

As stated Hertford Town played very well in the first half and despite the away side edging the possession they probably had the best chances to score in the opening 40 minutes. Pacey winger Larry Asare-Bediko and forward Sean Stock stood out for me. It was Cheshunt who scored right on half time when Deane smashed home a shot from outside of the box.

Cheshunt built on their lead in the second half with the third resulting from a rather harshly awarded free kick by the left hand corner flag. As the game drifted towards 90 minutes Max Mitchell (on as a second half sub) scored a great goal from outside of the box which stuck the crossbar and went downwards into the net.

So for Hertford Town fans it's another year's wait for another crack at the Hertfordshire Senior Cup which they last won in 1989 (2-0 v St Albans City). This was also the last final they reached. They seemed to be lacking a cutting edge up front - this could of been another ex Enfield Town player in Billy Healy. He scored eight times earlier in the season but has since left the club. He scored a hat-trick for his new club Hanwell Town at Chesham United Reserves on Wednesday evening.

The question for Cheshunt fans is could this be their season for glory in the HSC? It'll be hard as in the next round they face Blue Square North side Bishops Stortford.

The modern day club were formed in 1946 and have since been to nine Hertfordshire Senior Cup Finals and lost them all!

The original Cheshunt FC did win the competition in 1923 against but since then the famous old trophy, first won by Hoddesdon against Watford Rovers (now Watford FC) in 1887, has eluded football in Cheshunt.

One good thing for Hertford Town is the pitch at Hertingfordbury Park which is in tip-top condition at present. Usually when it's rained at this time of year it's under-water.

MASSIVE GAME AT CHALK LANE ON SATURDAY

The ex Enfield Town contingent are currently helping Cockfosters top the Spartan South Midlands League Division One table with an amazing winning run of 15 league and cup games. On Saturday they face their biggest game of the season so far with the visit of third placed London Lions. The Lions are five points below but do have three games in hand so the result of Saturday's game is highly important.

Chalk Lane - Expecting a good crowd for the big game on Saturday

Both teams have only lost one league game so far. The Lions lost at home to Harpenden Town and Cockfosters surprisingly lost at home to Kentish Town.

Both are still involved in the FA Vase with Lions entertaining Eastern Counties League Division One side Brightlingsea Regent and Cockfosters travelling to SSMFL side Oxhey Jets on the 18th November.

The game is sure to attract a good crowd and should be higher than Cockfosters highest crowd of 92 that saw the home game against Harpenden Town on Saturday 6th October.

Cockfosters have scored an amazing 61 goals in their 16 league games so far face the Lions who have the best defensive record letting in just 5 goals in their 13 games.

KRISTIAN MUNT RESIGNS FROM WARE

Kristian Munt who took up the managerial reigns at Ware during the summer has resigned from his post report warefc.co.uk.

Ware have made a poor start to the season and are currently bottom of the Ryman League Division One (North) on only three points. Munt managed only win in his tenure which was a 0-1 win at Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side Biggleswade United.

Ex Enfield Town joint boss Stuart Margolis and coach Peter Risley will take charge of the team on a caretaker basis whilst the club search for a successor. Margolis had been Munt's assistant at Wodson Park FC as well as at Ware for the past few months.

Ware's last league victory came in the last game of the 2011/12 season when they defeated Waltham Forest 2-0 on Wednesday 2nd May in front of 91 people at Wodson Park.

Ware entertain second placed Heybridge Swifts on Saturday.

As you can see no team that has lost four or more games in their first twelve have gone on to win the title. With this in mind you count out of winning the championship all but the current top seven and Barking (3 losses in 11 games) as they have all lost 4+ games already.

Looking further into the facts and statistics the following makes interesting reading -

No team with 19 points or under in their first 12 games have gone on to win the title
Could we therefore disregard Barking, Enfield 1893 and Takeley. Takeley's points total would be 21 but they were deducted three points for playing an ineligible player in their 5-4 victory on the 7th August.

No team scoring 23 goals or under in their first 12 games have gone on to win the title. Brentwood's total of 24 was the lowest in 2000/01 with the next highest being 28 on no less than 5 occasions.
Disregard Barking (21), Enfield 1893 (22) and Barkingside (20)??

There's no doubt that it's going to be a very close race to the title and these statistics could mean nothing as Enfield 1893 have already won their 13th and 14th games 3-1 and 3-2.

It all points towards Great Wakering Rovers, Burnham Ramblers, London Bari or Bethnal Green United being title winners. Could we also discount London Bari (GD +4) and Bethnal Green United (GD +7) as all previous champions over the last twelve years have had a double figure goal difference after their first 12 games.

Down at the bottom of the table it's a case of the usual suspects along with Sporting Bengal United. Clapton got their first win against Bowers and Pitsea last Tuesday with a 3-1 victory at The Spotted Dog. They also narrowly lost 2-3 against high flying Burnham Ramblers on Saturday.

SBU also only have one win and are joined in the bottom three by Stansted who are also on one win. SBU's win came in a 3-2 home victory over Enfield 1893 with The Airportmen's victory also coming at home against Southend Manor (2-1).

The only side without a defeat so far are Maldon and Tiptree whom currently head the table. That beat Grays Athletic 2-1 yesterday in a top of the table clash at The Wallace Binder Stadium. It was Athletic's first defeat in seven league games. Terry Spillane's squad (many of whom followed him from Redbridge in the Summer) looks strong and clearly they are real contenders. Ollie Berquez scored both goals for Maldon yesterday. The crowd of 157 was M&T's top league attendance of the season which was no doubt helped by Gray Athletic's large travelling support. The football loving public of both Maldon and Tiptree haven't come out in force to watch the table toppers as yet as prior to yesterday's game they had an average of just 72.

Closely following are Maldon's local rivals Heybridge Swifts and Grays Athletic. What maybe key is that Maldon have a game in hand over both sides and could go eight points clear should they win this game.

The Swifts are bang in form with five wins and a draw in their last six games. They travel to Wroxham this midweek and then go to bottom of the table Ware next Saturday.

Potters Bar Town and Aveley currently make up the top five with Romford (five wins in six) making a move up the table. Cheshunt who had been up in the play-off places have dropped down the table with five defeats in their last six games.

One of the most unexpected results of the season came when Waltham Forest travelled up to Needham Market last Tuesday night and recorded an amazing 1-6 win. The Marketmen, who for the past two seasons have been one of the best teams in the league, have yet to win at home.

It's the first time since the 8th October 2005 that The Stags have scored six goals in a league match. On that day they won 6-2 versus Aveley in a Southern League (Eastern Division) match. Mark Ward, Bai Mass Lette Jallow, Richard Georgiou, Darren Duporte, Paul Armand and Leon Belton-McKenzie scored those goals versus The Millers. On Tuesday night Adrian Clifton, CoreyWhitely, Joel Palmer (2), and Manu Dagher along with an OG sealed the historic win for The Stags. They have been amongst the goals of late as they thrashed Bowers and Pitsea 8-1 in the Essex Senior Cup on the 24th October.

In fact The Stags scoring record of 23 goals in 12 games is more than the 20 they managed in their 42 league games in the 2009/10 season.

Ware are in danger of being cut adrift at the bottom of the table with only three points on the board so far. Redbridge and Ilford are just above them on seven points with a small gap then to AFC Sudbury and Harlow Town. AFC Sudbury were some people's favourites for the title and are somewhat surprisingly struggling so far.

They are currently on a winless run of eleven league and cup games. Their only league wins have come against Harlow Town and Grays Athletic. Yesterday's 0-4 home defeat against Brentwood Town was the fourth time in five games that they have conceded more than four goals.

Ware are without a win and their only points have come in draws against fellow struggler's Redbridge and Ilford along with a surprise 2-2 against Potters Bar Town. The question is when will Ware win?? Their fixture list for the forthcoming two months looks very difficult. Anything other than a win for Heybridge Swifts next Saturday would be a major shock. They then go to Witham Town, who despite being in 17th place, have good home record of three wins, a draw and one loss. Brentwood Town have shown some good form of late with the 4-0 win at AFC Sudbury along with an impressive 0-3 FA Trophy replay win at Lewes. Could those elusive three points come in the home game against Chatham Town who currently only have one win on the road at Ilford??

2012/13 ANAGRAM RECORDS CUP - UPDATE

The 2012/13 Anagram Records Cup also known as The Capital Counties Feeder Leagues Trophy got underway on Saturday 6th October when Fire United beat Hertfordshire Senior County League side Sandridge Rovers in the only first round game in the competition.

Fire United Christian Football Club to give them their full name play in the Middlesex County League Division One (Central and East). The report on their website for the Sandridge game is superb. Here is a snippet -  'However the fast outputs and with quality of Fire United CFC and their "warriors in this project" made ​​it happen with the first goal with the top scorer player Huender "Ronaldo", all in an agility with PH Goianinho, and all of the FIRE UTD.'

Fire United play another Hertfordshire Senior County League side in the Second Round when they entertain Chipperfield Corinthians.

BALDOCK TOWN UP TO SECOND PLACE

TheColdEnd estimates the crowd at Top Field as around 30 people - most of whom gathered behind the dug outs.

TheColdEnd was unable to get to Enfield Town's brilliant and highly eventful 3-4 win at Canvey Island today but can bring you some highlights of a match today. It was third plays fourth in the Hertfordshire Senior County League Premier Division as Baldock Town entertained Cuffley at Top Field, Hitchin where they are ground sharing this season.

In truth this wasn't a classic game but the home side will be very pleased with the result at the end of the day. Baldock were 3-1 up going into the last 10 minutes of the game and ran in two further goals towards the end of the game. They were the better side with Cuffley favouring the more direct approach to the game which didn't really trouble the Baldock back four and goalkeeper.

The win puts the home side up into second place in the table.

ANOTHER TRIP TO CANVEY ISLAND TOMORROW

Enfield Town take another trip to Canvey Island tomorrow afternoon but this time travel to The Aspects Stadium to play Canvey Island FC in the Ryman Premier Division. The Gulls qualified for the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy in midweek with a home replay win over Evo-Stik Central Division side Uxbridge. Louis Dennis, Ricky King (2) and an own goal sealed a 4-2 win for Steve Tilson's side to set up a home tie against Chesham United in the next round. Dennis has recently joined from League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge and spent some of last season on loan at Grays Athletic.

They have played six Ryman League games at home so far this season against Leiston (W 2-0), Hampton and Richmond Borough (D 0-0), Lewes (D 0-0), Whitehawk (L 1-2), Bognor Regis Town (D 1-1) and Margate (W 3-1). One defeat out of five shows they are very strong at home and it's another good game in prospect for The Town.

Striker Bradley Woods-Garness scored a hat-trick in their most recent 3-1 home victory over Margate. He has scored seven goals in eleven games so far and was capped for Montserrat in the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup earlier this year.

They have a home average crowd of 316 for their Ryman League home games so far this season.
