HERTFORDSHIRE'S COD ARMY MARCH ON

Mention of 'The Cod Army' in football and many fans will think of the famous Fleetwood Town who were promoted from the Blue Square Premier to the Football League this year. However, there is another COD ARMY in football and TheColdEnd was there to see Codicote take on Wodson Park on Tuesday evening in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One. I had seen Cod play last Tuesday at the ground they currently call home - Gosling Park. On that occasion they were 4-1 winners against Cranfield United

Ware based Wodson Park are under new management for the 2012/13 season and they have also amalgamated with the Wodson Park junior football club. They have a new badge and new team colours which you'll see in the video. They used to play in green stripes.

New manager Simon Riddle has had a tough start to things recording only two draws from seven league and cup games. The two teams had played each other in the FA Vase on Saturday with Codicote winning 1-0 at The Gosling Stadium.

The away side were firmly in control of things last night winning 0-6 and could of added to the score with a penalty from player/manager Liam Errington which was well saved by the Wodson keeper. Even when they were down to ten men, Leon Gutzmore was red-carded for a professional foul of Wodson forward Courtney Clay, the Cod Army looked the better side.

Centre forward's Leeroy Williams and Kane Dougherty look a very decent pairing with Williams really causing the Wodson back line problems with his speed and strenght throughout the 90 minutes. Doughery scored a brace and then unfortunately went off injured at half time. Centre back and Cod captain Ricky Bridge scored two goals as well.

Out of the seven games Wodson have played they have only hit the back of the net twice (against Cranfield United and Langford) and they were somewhat unlucky not to score last night so that is
something to build upon for Riddle.

The commitment of the Wodson players can't be questioned either as right on 90 minutes with Williams through on goal their defender put in an amazing sliding tackle to take the ball away from the Cod forward. Sportingly Williams clapped the fantastic play which was brilliant to see.
