ESSEX SENIOR LEAGUE OPENING FIXTURES RELEASED

The Essex Senior Football League kicks off it's 2012/13 season next Saturday 4th August. Therefore, right in the middle of London 2012, non-league football will return just a short distance from the Olympic Stadium. The closet games to the Greatest Show on Earth are at Mayesbrook Park where Southend Manor visit Barking and at Oakside where Takeley play Barkingside.

Relegated Great Wakering Rovers start their campaign with a home match against Stansted with new club London Bari making their ESL debut at Sawbridgeworth Town. Last season's bottom two face off at Gardiners Close where Clapton play Basildon United. New Ton's boss Chris Wood is an ex manager of Basildon with The Bees having a new boss for 2012/13 in John Higley who was most recently in charge at London APSA.

In the midweek games highlights include "The Battle of Basildon" where United host local rivals Bowers & Pitsea on Wednesday night and another local derby between Southend Manor and Great Wakering Rovers on Tuesday night. Gordon Boateng's new look Enfield 1893 FC side travel the short distance down the A10 to Coles Park to play Haringey and Waltham Development on Wednesday night.

The road to Wembley starts for the Essex Senior League on Saturday 11th August with last season's heroes Southend Manor starting with a home tie against Hullbridge Sports. The only other all ESL tie comes at Bowers and Pitsea who entertain Eton Manor.

TheColdEnd predicts that Great Wakering Rovers, looking to wipe out the memories of last season's relegation from the Ryman League, will contest the title race along with Takeley, Enfield 1893 and Burnham Ramblers pushing towards the top of the table. There will be a surprise team and could that be the mystery of new club London Bari who will play home games at Clapton's Spotted Dog Ground.
