Royston Town have opened up a ten point lead in the race for the title after losing only two of their opening 17 league games. They are followed by Berkhamsted and third placed Dunstable Town, whom with their two games in hand over the top two, look to be The Crows closest challengers over the next few months. Dunstable Town have only lost one league game out of fifteen so far and go into the big Dunstable derby on Saturday in good form. AFC Dunstable, who they face at Creasey Park, are having a great first season at this level and are currently in sixth place. Prior to the big local derby Town entertain struggling Hatfield Town at Creasey Park on Tuesday night.

Assuming Royston keeping winning and if Dunstable Town win their two games in hand they would be only five points behind the table toppers.

The next month is a very important one for The Crows as face three of the current top six (AFC Dunstable, Haringey Borough and Berkhamsted)  in their next five league games. The results of these games may or (as the chasing pack will be wishing) may not point towards where the championship trophy will end up.

Berkhamsted FC, formed in 2009 after the demise of Berkhamsted Town FC, have made they way back up to the Premier Division level the old club left.  Their supporters will be well pleased at sitting in second place at this stage of the season.

Leverstock Green have dropped down several places in the league as after winning their first 10 games they have only won one in their last eight games.

It's good to see Town's near neighbour's Haringey Borough doing well in the league losing only three games to date. Their three defeats have come against three teams in the top six being Leverstock Green and the two Dunstable clubs.

Making up the top eight are Aylesbury United and Tring Athletic. The Ducks are still playing outside of their home time currently ground sharing at Leighton Town. Sadly, Buckingham Road has now stood empty since 2006.

FA VASE HOPES IN THE SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE

In the FA Vase there are only three (possibly four) SSMFL teams left for the Third Round Proper which is due to be played on Saturday 3rd December .
Haringey Borough have a tough home tie against fellow SSMFL league team Royston Town. This is the best run Borough have had in the Vase since 1987/88 when they got through to the Fourth Round.  On that occasion they lost away at Tamworth (1-3).

Leverstock Green, who had a great run last season, have to win their replay at Enfield 1893 tomorrow night in order to travel to Long Buckby of the United Counties League. If Levvy do get through to the Fourth Round it’ll be an amazing achievement seeing at Long Buckby have won 23 of their 24 league and cup games so far this season and knocked Dunstable Town out in the last round.  1893’s form  at Goldsdown Road is also good with only one loss in their last five league and cup games. The defeat was a narrow 0-1 against Essex Senior League title rivals Witham Town.
Ampthill Town are flying the flag for Division One and face a trip to Lancing who are currently in third place of the Sussex County League Division One. Lancing beat Combined Counties League leader's Guildford City in the last round so will be very tough opponents for the Bedfordshire side.
