ROCKS RUTHLESS AGAINST A SECOND BEST TOWN

If the excellent 5-1 win away at AFC Sudbury in midweek was Dr Jekyll then Town's performance against East Thurrock United was definitely a Mr Hyde afternoon yesterday.

The visitor's showed in their 0-4 victory why they are quite rightly top of the league. The win was the Essex side's tenth in a row. They ruthlessly scored four first half goals to kill the game off.

The writing seemed to on the wall in the opening minutes of the game when Max Cornhill smashed a shot from outside of the box which rattled Rob Blackburne's cross-bar. It so easily could of been 0-1 at that point.

Kris Newby started things off with a nice finish from inside the box and got the second when he was first to a through pass the Enfield defence to slot the ball home past Rob Blackburne.

Max Cornhill made it 3-0 with a curling free kick into the top left hand corner of the net from just outside the box.

Newby completed his hat-trick when took hold of the ball on the right hand side of the field and went on a mazy run around three Town players and fired home a shot into the left hand corner.

With it being 4-0 at half time the second half was a bit of a non-event. I'm sure the East Thurrock United team-talk would of gone along the lines of "Job done boys.....don't get booked...don't get injured and close the game out."

That they did but it could been even more embarrassing for Town had it not been for a few misses and the post and bar. Cornhill capped an impressive performance by hitting the woodwork in the closing minutes of the match, as did his team mate Kye Ruel.

So, Sometimes as supporter you have to stand back, applaud the opposing side's performance and say that your team were second best. Enfield Town showed on Tuesday night that they are a far better side than yesterday afternoon's performance suggests and I know the squad will come back from this disappointing result. The cold end can confidently predict that if any side finishes above The Rocks in the league they will be crowned champions.

Their scheduled trip to second placed Needham Market on the 22nd January now looks like a very important game for both sides in the race for the league title. .

No highlights today I'm afraid as I had a nightmare and deleted the wrong bits on the camera..Yes, I know I'm an amateur...and I only had two of the goals on film!!  Better service next time hopefully. Apologies to ETU supporters.
