HERTFORDSHIRE SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE - THE SEASON SO FAR

The Hertfordshire Senior County League is now well underway with teams playing between 6 and 9 games so far this season. What is surprising is that last season's Championship challengers Wormley Rovers and Baldock Town Letchworth find themselves in mid-table and near the bottom of the league respectively. Baldock have only won one of their six league games at home to Codicote and face a difficult trip to 2nd placed Harpenden Rovers this Saturday. Rovers currently play 15 miles away from their traditional home at Acre's Corner with their matches being played at Hadley FC's home of Brickfield Lane, Arkley, Barnet.

Currently top of the Premier Division are last season's Division One Champions Letchworth Garden City Eagles although they could be joined by third placed Met Police Bushey if they win their game in hand. The Police are the only side across the two divisions who are currently unbeaten in the league. The two sides meet in what should be a great game on Saturday 16th October at the Eagle's home of Pixmore.

Enfield based Hinton along with Cuffley are currently in the chasing pack in 4th and 5th place. Cuffley have one of the best nicknames in football being "the Zepplins" or "The Zeps" for short. The history of this unique name comes from the fact the villiage of Cuffley was the scene of the first ever downing of a German airship during World War One.

Hinton, who play at the Sports club on Holtwhites Hill in Enfield have lost just two of their eight league games and face Wormley Rovers at home in the next game scheduled on the 16th October in the league's esteemed Aubery Cup competition.

Bottom of the pack in the Premier Division are Lemsford who only have a four point haul to show from nine league games. They had a great start to the season with a 1-4 away win at Croxley Guild only to lose their next five games shipping 21 goals in the process. A draw at home to Bovingdon gave them a brief break from losing only for them to suffer defeats in their next two games. Wormley Rovers visit them on Saturday.

In the First Division league new boy's Goffs Oak sit proudly top of the division winning seven of eight league games and scoring 34 goals in the process. This makes the team who play at the Goffs Oak pavilion the top scorers across the two divisions followed by first division mid-table side Buntingford Town who goal tally has been helped considerably by two recent results being a 7-0 win at home to AFC Hatfield Town and a 9-2 win away at Old Parmiterians. Goffs Oak are followed closely by Knebworth, Whitwell and St Peters in the early race for the division one title.

Whipping boys in the first division are Kimpton Rovers who are pointless from eight league games with only three goals scored. Rovers also lost in the Herts Intermediate Cup 5-1 away at Welwyn Garden City reserves last week. In their next game (scheduled for the 16th October) they a difficult game against goal-crazy Buntingford Town at home in the Aubery Cup.

Baldock Town Letchworth tasted glory on the road the Wembley in the FA Vase beating Milton United (at home) and recording a great victory away at Essex Senior League Basildon United before narrowly losing to Hellenic League Holyport in the First round on the 2nd October.

The cold end has only seen one Hertfordshire County League game so far this season which was the Letchworth derby which did include this fantastic goal right out of the top draw scored by Eagles Robert Groves. As I wrote at the time if a Droga or Rooney would of scored such a goal it would of been all over the television for weeks. If you haven't watched the goal yet check it out here -
