Leyton up next on Saturday

After last Saturday's cup heroics Enfield Town recommence their Ryman League campaign with a trip to what most supporters would say are our biggest rivals Leyton FC. The rivalry dates back to the first season of Town's history in the ESL in 2001/2002 when Leyton pipped us to the championship but we got one back by beating them on penalty kicks in the League cup final at Basildon United. It's under ten miles between Goldsdown Road and Lea Bridge Road so this can be officially called a local derby.

Leyton have the 11 points on the board so far, the same as Enfield Town but they have played one extra game. Manager Tony Levoli left after only a few games of the season to be replaced by Craig Edwards who spent a few weeks in charge (but no competitive fixtures) of Blue Square Premier Grays Athletic in the summer. Edwards has also managed Chelmsford City and Dulwich Hamlet amongst others. Their results are as follows so far this season:

EAST THURROCK UNITED (H) d 2-2
Ware (away) d 1-1
Heybridge Swifts w 1-0
GWR L 1-2
LOWESTOFT TOWN d 1-1
Brentwood Town w 2-1
Cheshunt w 2-0

Good results at home to title favourites East Thurrock and Lowestoft Town show they are a strong side and the Town will have to put in a good performance to get all three points. Steve & Del will be eager to put one over their old employers by winning the game.

Up the Town!!
