Michael Owen - Hit or Miss???

TCE thinks that Michael Owen's surprise move to Old Trafford can only have a positive effect on England's chances of winning the world cup in 2010.

Michael can force his way back into Fabio Capello's plans if he stays fit and starts hitting the back of the net. A useful partnership with Wayne Rooney could be also be forged.

The questions to ask is will he start for United or be a substitution/impact player? Will he stay fit??

He has been given the task of following in Ronaldo's boots by being given squad number 7 which may be a clue.
Sir Alex Ferguson also has Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov to pick from with youngsters Danny Wellback and Federico Macheda available looking to improve. New £3m signing Gabriel Obertan primarily a winger can also play upfront. Berbatov is expected by Red Devil's fans to improve on his first season's performance.

Owen has started the pre-season well scoring on his debut as substitute, following this up with another 3 goals in the next two matches.

The daily mail reported he has already celebrated his move to Manchester by purchasing a £170,000 Ferrari super car.

TCE thinks Owen's move will give his play a new lease of life and kick start his career which had gone backwards somewhat in his time at St Jame's Park. Injuries plagued his stay after arriving from Real Madrid for £16m in August 2005. During last season's relegation disaster at the Toon Owen started 29 matches and made 7 substitute appearances scoring just 8 times.

TCE's opinion is that Sir Alex Ferguson has pulled another master stroke signing Owen on a free and the move will work out.

Everyone knows he doesn't sign many bad players although Eric Djemba Djemba (£3.5m) and Massimo Taibi (£4.4m) would spring to the minds of United fans.

What price Michael getting his 90th cap and being on the plane to South Africa with Fabio Capello?
