WODSON PARK SHOCK AMPTHILL

THE WOODWORK AND SOME DETERMINED DEFENDING DENY VISITORS
Second placed Ampthill Town visited Wodson Park in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One on Wednesday night. Going into the game the hosts were in sixteenth place (of 22) having won 13 of 39 league fixtures with the visitors record reading 23 wins from their 36 games.

It wasn't pretty but Wodson Park played to their strengths defending well and in numbers. They put in a gritty determined and hard working performance to edge the game 1-0 after they converted one of their few chances on goal just prior to the break. The visiting Ampthill fans, officials and players will look back at the match and really wonder how they didn't score as when they did get past the Wodson back line the hit the woodwork on no less then four occasions.

Ampthill Town have lost only five games in their 37 games after this defeat and amazingly they have all come away from home in midweek fixtures. Next Tuesday they go to London Colney, whom are top of the table and could win the championship in that game depending on results over the weekend.

Their manager Craig Bicknell will know nothing is certain and will have his team well prepared for their forthcoming games. A few more wins and promotion will be gained alongside the Bedfordshire Senior Trophy (which they picked up on the 13th March with a 1-0 win over Crawley Green) and their memorable FA Vase run to the fourth round to crown a very succesful season.
