There is no surprise to read the top crowd of the opening weekend in the Vanarama National Division came at The Racecourse Ground where 9,897 fans saw Wrexham come from 0-1 behind to win 2-1 against Eastleigh. This was only 3,969 lower than the Championship game between Reading and Cardiff City.

The figure beat every crowd in League Two as well as Burton Albion (3,363), Exeter City (6,701), Fleetwod Town (3,713), Forest Green Rovers (4,015), Oxford United (8,057), Peterborough United (7,691) and Shrewsbury Town (6,117) in League One.

You can see with the finances the Welsh club have available and the fan base they have there is huge potential for them to move upwards. They last played in Division Two (now the Championship) in the 1981/82 season,

Chesterfield and Oldham Athletic are at home next weekend where big crowds are expected.
