On Wednesday night Enfield 1893 FC put out a side which included seven players whom had started in their Essex Senior League loss at Burnham Ramblers on Saturday. They also included the very experienced Ricci Crace in their side along with three other players who have had some first team experience this year.
Steve Newing used the game to look at some of the Town reserve side with just Andy Jones, Jon Stevenson, Jey Siva and Stuart Blackburne involved who have played regularly this season. All four had played a part in the Waltham Abbey league game on the previous night. The 78 people who attended the game would of left wondering how Town managed not to get anything out of the game as they looked the better side over the 90 minutes. Andy Jones hit the bar and Stuart Blackburne had a penalty well saved by Daniel Mbkaky in the first half. Enfied 1893 scored the only goal of the game with Ben Andreos volleying home a good finish from outside of the box on the 58 minute mark.....it was the only goal and the only highlight the cold end camera didn't capture.
So for Enfield Town it was job done as it was very good to see some of the young reserve side putting in some impressive performances. The game showed that Ram Ismail has put together a good second string with Centre back Enhoro Uadie and midfielder Izzi Eren standing out for the cold end. Uadie put in a man of the match performance at the back looking very composed at all times with Eren's forward runs from midfield impressing. Vaughan Duguid's run with the ball to win the penalty when he was fouled just outside of the box and then just inside also stood out as good bit of play. On another day with some luck thrown in centre forward's Stuart Blackburne and Volkan Calcaliogu would of scored at least one goal but it just wasn't to be.
It was also great to see Phil Kane make an appearance from the subs bench which was his first start since his horrific leg break in pre-season.
Enfield 1893 FC go on to face Combined Counties League side Hanworth Villa in the second round.
