JORDAN HALLS FREE KICK WINS IT FOR HODDESDON TOWN

Over the last few months it's been a highly eventful period off the pitch for Essex Senior League Southend Manor.

Jerry Omanga took over as owner of the Southchurch Park club in June - He has been involved in grassroots football for the past 17 years running youth team side Leyton United.

Adam Peek, who had been manager for four years, left the club in early September with Omango taking over as boss with Garry Pond and Craig Walters, who had been part of Peek's backroom staff, taking on a coaching roles at the club.

Their first game in charge was on Friday 13th September at Woodford Town which ended in a 5-0 defeat so Manor went in to Tuesday's game at Hoddesdon Town with a league playing record of one win and three defeats from four games played. The encouraging statistic being in those four games they had only conceded nine goals which on the face of it doesn't look brilliant but take into account the five goals they let in at Woodford it makes better reading.

Hoddesdon Town were the better side in the first half against a hard working industrious visiting side who worked extremely hard putting men behind the ball. The home side hit the post early on via Isaac Marfo-Jacobs and had a few other chances to score with Manor keeper making some solid if not spectacular saves. Manor looked dangerous from set-pieces and free-kicks - of which I think Hoddy manager Simon Riddle would of thought his team gave too many away in the first period.

In the second half the visitors pushed higher up the pitch and had their own chances to score and with just 10 minutes left it looked as though they could escape Lowfield with a hard earned point only for substitute Jordan Halls to score a goal from a free kick on the left hand side of the penalty box. The ball was stuck low into the box and bounced straight into the corner of the net.

Final Score - Hoddesdon Town 1 Southend Manor 0

There was more news from the Essex coast on Wednesday as former Clapton and Barkingside  boss Michael Walther has been announced as new manager of the club. I wish Michael all the best in his new job. His first game in charge is a trip to Cockfosters tomorrow.
