THE COLD END RYMAN DIVISION ONE (NORTH) REVIEW OF THE SEASON - PART THREE

Cheshunt - 14th place

Some of their supporters celebrated like they'd won the league when they beat Town 3-1 at Theobald's Lane on the 16th March. When those fans look at their team's campaign they would have to say it was overall a disappointing season for The Ambers who lost 24 games with only bottom side Harlow Town losing more games (29). Bob Dearie's side only won two games against the top 9 sides being the above mentioned local derby game and the 4-2 defeat of East Thurrock United in their final home game of the season.
Cheshunt finished in 14th place for the 08/09 season on 56 points and got to the same position this season but on 6 less points with a total of 50.

The cold end thinks Cheshunt will improve for the 10/11 season and may even surprise a few teams by being up in the top 10 challenging for the play-offs.

Best result - Beating Town 3-1 on the 16th March
Worst results - Thamesmead Town liked to hit the back of the net versus The Ambers this season bagging 12 goals and letting in 3 in their 5-1 and 7-2 wins.

Best player - Chris Meikle scoring 19 goals in 39 league and cup games looks a very good prospect.

Waltham Forest - 15th place

The Stags never won more than three games in row which was a feat they only achieved once in late September and early October (VCD Home 2-1, Romford Away 3-4, Leyton Home 1-0). Manager Phil Miles who only took over in September 2009 left Cricklefields at the end of March along with some players including top scorer Danny Gabriel, who moved to Premier Division Aveley. Forest had a poor record of only three wins in their last twenty games and are another team who will want to improve next season.

Best result - The Stags 1-2 victory at VCD Athletic in January was only the Vicker's second home defeat of the season at the time.
Worst result - Losing 1-4 at home to Romford

Best players - Midfielder Peter Smith played well in the game the cold end saw at Wingate and Finchley and full back Ryan Oliva.

Maldon Town - 16th place

The big news of two old rivals forming an Alliance/Coalition is of course not at Downing Street but over in East Essex. Maldon Town will be known as 'Maldon and Tiptree FC' from next season after tenants Tiptree United decided not to field a side in the Essex Senior League for the 10/11 season. The Maldon Standard reports the Jam Makers will still maintain their status as a Senior Club and it is not a case of a merger. More information can be found at Maldon Standard website article

Manager (and ex Tiptree United boss) Colin Wallington left Maldon at the end of the season bringing down the curtain on a magnificent 20 year career at non-league level.

A new boss has yet to be named but Chairman Alan Brockhouse has reported an announcement is imminent.

Best result - Winning 1-5 at then play-off challenging Thamesmead Town on the 27th February was a welcome result especially after being thrashed 0-4 at home to Potters Bar Town in the preceding week.
Worst result - As above v Potters Bar or the 0-3 loss at home to Redbridge on the 20th March which makes even worse reading as the Motormen were without a win in eleven games prior.

Best player - Forward Jack Jeffery scored 13 goals in league and cup. Midfielder Stanley Murvo was a big dominating presence in the midfield who also showed a nice skillful touch when he was required to do so.
