The early table toppers in the Essex Senior League are Southend Manor who have won five and drawn one of their opening five games. They are certainly not scared of attacking football as in four of those games they have scored 4, 5, 4 and 4 goals with a 1-1 draw away at Barkingside on Saturday 13th August their only dropped points. They have also beaten fellow ESL side Takeley in the FA Cup after a replay at Southchurch Park earning them a trip to Cheshunt on Saturday. Will some Cup magic be sprinkled over Theobalds Lane this weekend?
Bethnal Green United are a close 2nd with Enfield 1893 sitting in 3rd place. United have lost one of their opening five games and look in good form especially after a 0-1 victory at Witham Town last weekend.
1893 look set to challenge for the title again this season following the disappointment of not being promoted last season. They have only scored four goals but as yet have not conceded with 3 wins and a draw so far.
Below 1893 are Barking who have made a good start to the season. Could they improve on last season's sixth placed finish??
Eight ESL clubs are left in the FA Cup with at least one guaranteed a place in the First Qualifying Round as Stansted play London APSA. The winners of the match at Hargrave Park travel to Ryman Premier Division Canvey Island in the next round.
