Letchworth Garden City Eagles are under the new management of Mark Nunn this season and Saturday was a memorable day for the club as they recorded their first win of the season in front of a really good crowd of 105 people at Pixmore. People not in the know might think that number is on the small side but if you compare it to their opening crowds of last season which were 28 (v Eaton Socon on Tuesday 8th August 2023) and 24 (v Burton Park Wanderers on Saturday 12th August ) it's a huge improvement especially when there were many Emirates FA Cup games locally.
The Eagles had lost 3-0 at Buckingham FC on the opening day of the season with their visitors Rothwell Corinthians winning 0-3 at London Colney.
Eagles were the better side and took a two goal lead into the first half break with former Hatfield United player Roddick Ageyman-Duah looking good on the left wing.
It was 3-0 early in the second half and despite James Sutton scoring in the 72nd minute for the visitors the result never looked in doubt. It was three points well deserved for Nunn's side. It's been a good start to the season for Sutton who scored twice in the opening game at London Colney.
My Man of the Match was former Langford, Stotfold and Bedford FC central-defender Mokbul Ali who put in a very impressive display in central-defence for the home side. He won a good number of headers at the back and also the header from a corner which preceded his side's third goal.
The Corinthians host Cranfield United next weekend with The Eagles visiting Leighton Town Reserves.
