SOME NON-LEAGUE NUMBERS...

37 - Stowmarket Town have scored thirty-seven goals in their eleven Thurlow Nunn Premier Division games so far. Their impressive 0-3 win at Nowich United    put The Old Gold and Blacks eight points clear at the top of the table. Joe Jefford, Josh Mayhew and former Leiston striker Matt Blake (on his debut) got the goals.

FIRE UNITED IN FA VASE ACTION AGAINST ERITH & BELVEDERE

When Fire United take to the field at the historic Royal Oak ground on Saturday 5th October to play Harwich & Parkestone it will have been 232 days since their last victory on Saturday 16th February 2019 when they won 1-0 at home to Wivenhoe Town in a Thurlow Nunn First Division South game. So far this season they have lost 0-5, 0-2, 0-5, 0-5 and 0-3 in the league along with 1-6, 0-5 and 1-3 cup defeats.

6 - Lopes Tavares play at the same ground (The Terrance Macmillan Stadium) as Fire United and have won all six of their Thurlow Nunn First Division South league games played so far! It'll be a top of the table clash next weekend when they face second placed Little Oakley.

42 - Essex Olympian League Division Two side Westhamians have conceded forty-two goals in their four league games played so far included a 19-0 defeat last weekend at Epping Town and a 12-0 defeat at home to Corinthians yesterday. It's not been all bad as they have won one of those four games 4-2 against Wakering Sports. Their next game is on Saturday 12th October in the Essex FA Premier Cup against Essex Senior League Reserve Division side Waltham Abbey Reserves.

0 - York City are the only side in the step one and two of the non-league pyramid to remain unbeaten. The Minstermen are three points clear of Chester at the top of the Vanarama North division thanks to their 3-0 home over Kings Lynn Town yesterday. Their next game is an FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round trip to Buxton who are currently bottom of the Betvictor Northern Premier Division. A crowd of 3,082 saw yesterday's game at Bootham Crescent.

6 - Spartan South Midlands Premier Division side Colney Heath have won all of their league games so far making it six in a row with a narrow 0-1 win at Leighton Town yesterday. The host Crawley Green on Tuesday evening who will be in a confident mood following their amazing 7-1 home against London Colney yesterday - a game in which Sam Holmes scored a hat-trick.

UNITE MK v MK GALLACTICOS IN FEBRUARY LAST SEASON

22 and 20 -  Local bragging rights will be on offer in Milton Keynes next weekend as MK Gallacticos entertain Unite MK in the Spartan South Midlands League Division Two. In last season's league games there was a 2-2 draw and a 1-2 win for the Gallacticos at the Irish Centre in February. It would be good to see a few more people turn out and support their local sides as a total of only 42 people saw last season's two games. The game takes place at the North Furzton Sports Ground, MK4.

Essex Senior League side Hadley have already played 4 games in the Emirates FA Cup this season and their next game couldn't get any tougher. Victories over Redbridge, Hoddesdon Town, Arlesey Town and Ramsgate have rewarded them with a third qualifying round trip to Vanarama South side Havant and Waterlooville who won 1-4 away at Wealdstone yesterday. Hadley are major underdogs but you never know with the magic of the FA Cup! Former Ipswich Town, Luton Town and Stevenage Borough player Adam Drury scored yesterday along with Danny Kedwell who has played in the football league with Gillingham as well as winning non-league's top division with AFC Wimbledon.

Jersey Bulls made in 9 wins in nine in the Combined Counties Division One with their 1-2 victory at AFC Hayes. It's a top of the table clash next weekend when Sandhurst Town visit who are in second place winning 6, drawing 2 and losing just one of their nine league games played.

BETVICTOR ISTHMIAN PREMIER DIVISION WEEKEND FIXTURES

Bognor Regis Town v Haringey Borough
Brightlingsea Regent v Lewes
Carshalton Athletic v Margate
Cheshunt v Horsham
The Ambers have won two of their seven league games played winning 1-2 at Bognor Regis Town last time out. Aside from an opening day 4-1 defeat at East Thurrock United their defeats have been close losing 0-1, 2-3 and 1-2 so the addition of experienced defender Sean Cronin (from Wingate and Finchley) who made his debut in the win at Bognor could be a key signing for them. Horsham visit Theobalds Lane with just one defeat (0-1 to Folkestone Invicta) in their league campaign so far.
Corinthian Casuals v Potters Bar Town
Two club who had excellent results in the FA Cup last weekend. Casuals beat Vanarama South side Chelmsford City 2-0 with The Scholars beating Hornchurch by the same scoreline. The home side will be looking to carry that postivity forward as they look for their first league win in their eighth game played.
Cray Wanderers v East Thurrock United
The Wanderers were at Step Four with their visitors at Step Two. Both have made good starts to the season with the Essex side winning five and losing three of their eight games played. Tony Russell's have been in great form winning 1-5 at Bishops Stortford in their last league game and beating Step Four side Soham Town Rangers 5-2 in the FA Cup on Sunday. Former Margate and Folkestone Invicta striker Joe Taylor has been in fantastic form for the South London side scoring five times in the last two games and eleven goals in total for the season so far.
Enfield Town v Merstham
Hornchurch v Bishop's Stortford
The Urchins have won two and drawn one of their three home league games so far. The Blues have won one and lost three of their four league games played - they have lost their last three games including a home defeat to Peterborough Sports in the FA Cup last weekend as did Hornchurch at Potters Bar Town 2-0.
Leatherhead v Bowers & Pitsea
Wingate & Finchley v Folkestone Invicta
The Blues will have a new man in their dugout for this match with Steve Clark and Danny Foster leaving the club at the begininng of the week. Former Harlow Town Assistant Manager Spencer Knight has been handed the job - He represented St Albans City, Chelmsford City, Canvey Island and Billericay Town during his playing career. It couldn't get any tougher for the North London side who entertain the league leader's who have won six and drawn one of their seven games - they lost 4-0 at Kings Langley in the FA Cup last weekend so will be looking to put that right on Saturday. Wingate have only scored four goals in their seven goals played so they will be looking to improve this record first off.
Worthing v Kingstonian

EARLY GOAL WINS IN FOR WOODFORD TOWN AGAINST CLAPTON FC

It was a low key affair between Woodford Town and Clapton in the London Senior Cup First Round last night. The home side had the best of the possession and took an early lead via debutant James Jewers. Clapton grew into the game but their cause wasn't helped when two players came off with injuries during the first half. One of the substitutes in midfielder Trentino Fabio Petrella looked sharp and created a few half chances for his side. The Tons had one really good chance to equalise in the second half but a close range shot was put wide with the Woodford keeper doing well to put off the Clapton player.  All in all Woodford deserved the victory and move into the second round of the competition. A crowd of just 36 people watched the action.

Clapton Football Club are without a ground at the moment having left The Old Spotted Dog - They are currently ground-sharing at Aveley's Parkside ground. With Thurlow Nunn First Division South side May and Baker also sharing it's got to be the busiest ground in the local area. This weekend May and Baker host Brightlingsea Regent Reserves on Friday evening - they also have a home game tonight against Burnham Ramblers. On Saturday Aveley host Grays Athletic in a Velocity Trophy game kicking off at 1pm followed by Clapton v Saffron Walden Town at 4pm.

Woodford Town travel to St Margaretsbury on Saturday before two home games in a row at Harlow Town where they are currently ground sharing awaiting for their new home at Ashton Playing Field is developed. They host Clapton in a league game on Friday 11th October and then Sawbridgeworth Town on the following Friday 18th October.

A number of clubs join the competition at this stage having been exempt until now. They are those who finished first, second, third and fourth in step five division without being promoted to step four. There are still a twenty-six club exempt to the Second Round stage who got to the Fourth Round Proper last season and were not promoted to step four - they are listed below the fixtures.

Bishop Auckland are one of the most historic and famous names in non-league football winning the FA Amateur Cup ten times including three times in row from 1955 to 1957. The club were without a home ground following the loss of Kingsway in 2001 ground-sharing at West Auckland Town, Shildon and Spennymoor Town but since 2010 have played at their new ground Heritage Park.

The Two Blues with their rich cup competition history have never had much luck in the FA Vase with their best performance in 2014/15 when they lost to 1874 Northwich in the Second Round Proper. They finished in third place of the EBAC Northern League Division One last season and are currently placed eleventh place.

Padiham of the North West Counties League Premier Division beat EBAC Northern League Division Two side Bedlington Terriers 5-0 at home in the last round so it could be a difficult tie for the visitors from County Durham.

Padiham's form in the league hasn't been great - they have only won one game in their eight played so far.

Abbey Hey v Barnoldswick Town
Sunderland Ryhope CW v Ashton Athletic
Chadderton v Guisborough Town
Winterton Rangers v Consett
Maine Road v Glasshoughton Welfare

Leicester Road are currently in tenth place of the Midland Football League Division One (Step Six) with their visitor's Walsall Wood top of the Premier Division (Step Five) so it'll be a really tough tie for them.

This first round tie equals Leicester Road's best performance in the Vase - they lost 4-5 to Uttoxeter Town in 2016/17.

The Prims missed out on the Midland League title last season by goal difference to Ilkeston Town so will be looking to go one better this season. The roles were reversed in 2017/18 as Walsall Wood won Division One by 15 points to Ilkeston Town scoring an incredible 173 goals in 42 games.

Their nickname of The Prims comes from their original name of "Walsall Wood Ebenezer Primitive Methodists" which the club were formed as in 1915. Their best performance in the FA Vase came in 2012/13 when they were knocked out at the Quarter-Final stage by Guernsey.

They have been knocked out at the third round stage in the last two seasons.

They are currently thirteenth in the Midland League Premier Division after winning promotion from Division One last season where they were runner's up.

Long Eaton United make this an all Midland League Premier Division clash - they are in seventh place at present. Long Eaton's best performance in the Vase has been reaching the third round on three seperate occasions.

Broxbourne Borough reached the fourth round in 2005/06 beating St Margaretsbury, Woodford United, Stanway Rovers (after a reply) and Maidstone United on spot kicks after another replay. They lost 1-0 at VCD Athletic in the fourth round. In 2015/16 they reached the third round losing to Bowers and Pitsea.

Brook House (as AFC Hayes were known as prior to 2007) reached the fifth round in 04/05 and the fourth round in 05/06. They were relegated to step six after finishing second from bottom of the table in the Combined Counties League Premier Division so this is a step six v step six game.

Tring Athletic currently lead the way in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division with six wins and just one defeat from their seven games played scoring a healthy 24 goals (3.43 goals per game) and letting in just 7. Their defeat came on the opening day of the season at home to Colney Heath who won 1-2 at The Grass Roots Stadium. Colney Heath have won all four of their games played so far but only have scored 9 goals (2.25 GPG) letting in 3 goals.

Two teams who transferred from the United Counties League Premier Division are handily placed in 2nd and 3rd positions. Newport Pagnell Town finished 8th with Eynesbury Rovers in 6th in last season's UCL Premier.

Arlesey Town and Colney Heath are the two sides left without a defeat. Arlesey Town won their game on the opening day of the season but have since drawn 1-1, 3-3, 1-1 and 1-1. Their next game is at home to Tring Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

Leighton Town and North Greenford United are the two sides yet to win a game. Greenford got their first point at home to Arlesey Town on Saturday. Ironically Leighton's only point also came in a draw away at Arlesey Town.

Potton United have conceded 22 goals in their seven games played including a 5-1 defeat to Tring Athletic and 6-0 to Newport Pagnell Town.

Leon Lobjoit, who has played as a professional at both QPR (2015/16) and Northampton Town (17/18), has made a phenomenal start to his season with Newport Pagnell Town. He has played four league games and scored ten goals including five against Potton United. Jim Burnside, who signed for NPT from Potton United over the summer, has also made a good goalscoring start to the season netting seven times in five games.

BRIMSDOWN RESCUE A POINT AGAINST UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT LONDON TIGERS

It has been a frustrating start to the London Tigers season in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One with, prior to kick off on Saturday's game at Brimsdown, a playing record of one draw and four defeats in the league alongside exits at the first hurdle of the FA Cup, FA Vase and League Challenge Cup. The point they had won on the opening day of the season at FC Broxbourne Borough had been chalked off as it had been ruled they had played an unregistered player.

They had had former Hayes and Yeading United under 23s boss Dwane Lee in charge but he has left the club and now new man is in the dug out - Details will follow when I find out who he is.

Brimsdown had done a little better. They had been knocked out of the FA Vase by Premier Division London Colney but had league wins against Wodson Park and Park View alongside a great point on the road at high scoring league leader's St Panteleimon.

Brimsdown are still ground sharing at Ware's Wodson Park as the hunt for a ground to call their own continues - Their two previous games have been watched by 38 people (Wodson Park) and 21 (Enfield Borough) so I expected a low crowd at this one but didn't imagine it would be as low as the 10 announced.

Those people who were in attendance saw a really entertaining exciting game of football between two decent sides.

The Tigers had many new players on show and played good passing football as did the home side who passed the ball out from the back - Although watching early on I did see the Tigers press high on the Brimsdown back line when they played it out early and thought they could force an error as the game went on.

The visitors took the lead through a really well taken goal after a decent interchange of passing allowed their player to lift the ball over the Brimsdown keeper and into the net off the post.

Brimsdown equalised when their impressive left back Ali Hassan scored one of the best goals you'll see all season and it was with high right foot. He was well outside of the penalty box when he smashed the ball into the top corner giving the Tiger's keeper no chance whatsoever.

Just before half time it was 1-2 when the Brimsdown keeper and defenders made that error I thought may come when playing the ball out from the back. The Tigers pressed and a poor pass was pounced upon to easily place the ball into the back of the net to the annoyance of the Brimsdown boss Ahmet Toygun as you'll see from the video.

Toygun registered his dis-pleasure to his team during his half time team talk. Due to the stadium being near enough empty you could hear his raised voice reverberating around their dressing room from underneath the stand. He is certainly passionate about his team!

BRIMSDOWN'S ALI HASSAN SCORED A FANTASTIC GOAL DURING THE FIRST HALF

Tigers took a 1-3 lead with a close range effort after a free kick (not captured on camera) before the home side had a chance to make it 2-3 from the penalty spot after a controversial decision by the referee. You'll see from the replay it was a foul but contact was made outside of the box. Justice was done though when the Tiger's keeper made a great save to his right hand side.

It was looking like the visitors were going to win their first three points of the season only for Brimsdown to make it 2-3 and then they were awarded another spot kick right on 90 minutes. There was no doubting this one as it was inside the box and a clear foul. This time the away keeper didn't have luck on his side and the ball hit the back of the net to make the score 3-3.

CREDIT TO BRIMSDOWN WHO CONTINUED TO PLAY IT OUT FROM THE BACK THROUGHOUT THE GAME

Both sides had chances to win the game even though we were in injury time with both keepers making good saves just before the final whistle was blown. The new management of The Tigers will be frustrated in giving away a two goal lead but on this showing I don't think it'll be too long before they get their first win.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Two of the promoted sides in St Panteleimon and Shefford Town & Campton currently lead the way in the division with London Tigers and Hillingdon Borough the only two sides left without a win.

JORDAN HALLS FREE KICK WINS IT FOR HODDESDON TOWN

Over the last few months it's been a highly eventful period off the pitch for Essex Senior League Southend Manor.

Jerry Omanga took over as owner of the Southchurch Park club in June - He has been involved in grassroots football for the past 17 years running youth team side Leyton United.

Adam Peek, who had been manager for four years, left the club in early September with Omango taking over as boss with Garry Pond and Craig Walters, who had been part of Peek's backroom staff, taking on a coaching roles at the club.

Their first game in charge was on Friday 13th September at Woodford Town which ended in a 5-0 defeat so Manor went in to Tuesday's game at Hoddesdon Town with a league playing record of one win and three defeats from four games played. The encouraging statistic being in those four games they had only conceded nine goals which on the face of it doesn't look brilliant but take into account the five goals they let in at Woodford it makes better reading.

Hoddesdon Town were the better side in the first half against a hard working industrious visiting side who worked extremely hard putting men behind the ball. The home side hit the post early on via Isaac Marfo-Jacobs and had a few other chances to score with Manor keeper making some solid if not spectacular saves. Manor looked dangerous from set-pieces and free-kicks - of which I think Hoddy manager Simon Riddle would of thought his team gave too many away in the first period.

In the second half the visitors pushed higher up the pitch and had their own chances to score and with just 10 minutes left it looked as though they could escape Lowfield with a hard earned point only for substitute Jordan Halls to score a goal from a free kick on the left hand side of the penalty box. The ball was stuck low into the box and bounced straight into the corner of the net.

Final Score - Hoddesdon Town 1 Southend Manor 0

There was more news from the Essex coast on Wednesday as former Clapton and Barkingside  boss Michael Walther has been announced as new manager of the club. I wish Michael all the best in his new job. His first game in charge is a trip to Cockfosters tomorrow.
