I grew up in Wilfred Avenue, just behind the 'social club' end, where people bravely parked their cars on the bank behind the goal. My dad's cousin, Tommy Rust, was often on the turnstiles for match days, and I have a small collection of programmes from around 1977 to 1984. I often went to watch Rainham on Saturdays when West Ham were playing away from home. Favourite memories include seeing Trevor Brooking turn out twice after he had 'retired' (I think his brother was the club coach at the time), some cracking derbies against Hornchurch, and some referees on the way to the top (David Elleray comes to mind). Also enjoyed the games against the Showbiz XI in the early 70s, featuring the Kinks, David Hamilton, Brian Cant and Frazer Hines, amongst others. I've been trying to track down some results from some reserve games I went to, would like to hear from anyone who has a good collection of Rainham results. My favourite players have been mentioned by people on here earlier... Bobby Newman, Terry Fearey, Steve Plant, Bobby Hart, Johnny Coates, Malcolm Smith, Ted Hagger, Earle Jacotine, Alan Roots, the Coney brothers. Players I remember, excuse me if I cant recall first names and one case the spelling. They were Ray Archer, Peter Lee, Lutkin, Fred bussell and Yallop. I trained with the first team, and can remember the long runs along the A13 and back to Deri Park. Sometimes we trained at Wellington Hall and can remember one of the windows getting broken!! flying balls. My debut game was against Leytonstone FC, and I scored that day. Unfortunately, we drew the match 1-1. The last game I played was against Dagenham reserves at Victoria Road. Dagenham were due to play Redhill away in a cup game, but it was postponed with a waterlogged pitch. They very sneakily played many of their first team players that day, which was very tough for us. We went down 3-1. Prior to Rainham I played many games of park football in the Romford and district leagues.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6997493669162079040.post-49455590345992978142021-01-22T16:44:14.248+00:002021-01-22T16:44:14.248+00:00Hi, I only have a few Rainham Programmes unfortuna...Hi, I only have a few Rainham Programmes unfortunately and don't have that one in my collection. I played for the team in October 1974 when we played Leyton Orient for the opening of our floodlights, great bunch of team mates.<br />Hope you can respond and exchange names if you want.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
